Oh yeah!!! Don't touch that button! That activates the nukes in Mother Russia and gives more power to North Korea! DONT TOUCH IT!

Anywayssssss. Yeah, don't know. Not on my '01 and '04. So I am assuming that is aftermarket. Have you played around with it? Almost looks like a cut off switch... Like before you leave and lock your car, you hit the switch and it shuts the fuel supply off or something.

Does anything light up on the button its self or on the dash?

Might be a radar/ laser system installed by the previous owner. I had a switch in my e46 that was missing the "brains" but had a sensor in the front.

TerminatorX5 08-11-2013 07:44 PM

aftermarket - most likely... i would pull the trim and look where it leads...

Your images are confusing because the perspective doesn't reveal much...only raises more questions.

Why does it look like you have sport seat (in 1st pic)...with extended thigh support...are they powered or manual thigh extensions?

The 2nd pic doesn't give us any indication of where the button is located...is it on the front side of the seat...or the opposite side if th 1st pic?

Do you have heated seat? Or perhaps it's a kill switch?

mrbmwx5 08-11-2013 08:30 PM

My answer is why not pull that panel out and see where or what it connect to....

The button is located on the side of the mid console ( driver side ) the extension of the seats are manual but the seat is electric

Ahhh! Upon fresher (morning eyes) and a much larger monitor screen...I can see it, now. :p:

As others have mentioned, if pressing the button appears to not do anything...you'll need to remove the panel and trace the wiring.

I lightened the contrast, adjusted the brightness, and circled the button's location plus added arrows so that if anyone else was like me (and didn't see it in the shadows of your 1st image)...they should be able to see the location of the button, now. :)

TerminatorX5 08-12-2013 12:45 PM

Yazar, don't you have a fire extinguisher requirement in Holland? I don't see it, nor the 1st aid kit, if it were to be on the driver's side...

For clarification, in your original post are you saying you are sure that there has never been a retrofit or aftermarket modification to your X.

If so, does that mean you have owned it since it was new, you know the owner(s) or what?

electricalserv x5 08-12-2013 01:06 PM

it is a N/O[normally open] switch? it looks like a 3 postion switch, which is N/O

Was gonna suggest this.

My thoughts:
A security feature (aftermarket)
--- Cuts off fuel?, The alarm sound? Immobilizes the ignition..

Some sort of extra light..
--- Rear fogs? Some sort of Underglow Neon.... That may have been removed

Seat heater..
--- Maybe even for a different seat

Subwoofer cutoff switch if you have/ had one?

Getaway/spy mode.
--- cuts of brake lights and such...

There used to be a license plate cover up.
--- Flippy plates or Curtain frame..

I wont go further, the ideas will just get crazier. :fencing:

Looks like the after market seat heater switches I had in my Explorer.

yes that' s right ! We don't have the requirement for fire extinguisher but I'm not so sure about the 1st aid kit.

Nice ideas but the button does nothing at all. Wat I did remember is that the previous owner had a back screen installed ( not sure if aftermarket ) on the back of the mid console.

he did removed this after a while maybe it was the power button but not sure

This car was bought in 2006 . I have known the owner and the car from first day.

I bought this car in 2009 and sadly in 2010 the previous owner passed away

leaving me whit the mystery of the switch ... WHAT DOES IT DOOO :P

just one screw ?

bcredliner 08-13-2013 02:18 PM

Put the seat as far to the rear as it will go. Remove the one screw. Pull on the center until the tabs release and bend it out to get it out from behind the rear trim- That simple.

DEFINITELY aftermarket. Having been responsible for all the switches on the E53 during series production, I know with absolute certainty that we never installed such a switch in Plant Spartanburg.

Hope you figure this out!
