BMW GT1 software and laptop deal
Guys, there is a private seller looking to offload a Dell Laptop with DIS software on it.
now I've read a LOT of threads on how beneficial these software programs are, but I'm wondering if this is one of those deals I can not afford to pass up. http://calgary.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehi...AdIdZ411851558 please let me know if I should pull the trigger, or if this does NOT have the proper software for the e53 (and my e31). I'm not looking to re=program my car to be a transformer, but maybe some time I can figure out some coding perks and update/customize my 2005 4.4i. I know a lot of ppl talk about NCS Expert, GT1 and another software name that escapes me now, but I'm wondering if they are all loaded onto this laptop already. any help is appreciated. |
Clockwork,
400 bucks seems steep. I bought my Dell D620 laptop on ebay for 80 bucks, was freshly refurbished. Then I bought the Romanian cable/inpa package from seller (bmwfanatiq) on ebay from Romania, and installed myself. The package was 45 bucks. Installed it myself in a day. For $125 I have the same thing that dude is selling, and he looks to even have the same laptop as me. Put your own laptop together and pocket the extra $250 bucks towards goodies for the X or your other bimmers. |
oh dang. you got it cheap!!

Shouldn't be too hard to find a laptop locally that will handle the software. I am sitting here right now removing software from an old HP laptop I had sitting in a closet and I have the Romanian software to install as soon as the HP is clean.

SO I can buy the software and OBD2 connectors for cheap is what you're all saying, just the laptop is the most expensive part?

Go on ebay man, and search for dell windows xp laptop, check out the auctions for just under 100 bucks and see what is out there.
Most laptops under 80 bucks are just for parts. Once you get to 100 and up, they most of the time have fresh installs of windows XP, and cleaned/clear hard drives. You need 35gb of free space, I got a laptop with a 80 gb hard drive. You also need at least 1 gb of RAM, and a dual core processor 1.5 ghz or better is preferable. When I bought my Dell there were at least 5-6 other auctions in the same price range for the same D620 laptop. Came with AC charger as well, no missing buttons, no damage. This was only like 2 weeks ago. Only thing I had to do was buy an extended battery for 23 bucks on ebay, 99% of the sellers don't give you a fresh battery and don't warranty the battery holding a charge (its a wear item) Buy the cable/software from this seller: BMW USB OBD Diagnostic Cable Inpa Ediabas Dis SSS GT1 | eBay Here is a quick search in the 85-105 range for same model as me, Dell D620 (124 to choose from): dell d620 laptop | eBay You're welcome! OH AND BY THE WAY: The Romanian install software tells you right off the bat, that if you have Windows Firewall enabled, or Antivirus software active, that it will screw with the communication between the software and the car. So any laptop you get, should be fresh and clean, turn off the wireless internet, disable Windows Firewall, and do not install Anti-Virus software (or at least turn it off when diagnosing) |
The Romanian software comes with the cable
