new member saying hi!

hey guys, bought my first bmw on monday. got a 2001 3.0 x5. sold my 2006 F150 supercab lariat. so far I'm liking the ride on the highway a LOT and I also like the increase in gas mileage from an average of 13mpg to 18~19mpg lol.

I will probably have several questions in this thread over the coming weeks as I figure out more and more things to replace/fix on this car as it does have normal wear/tear for a 12 year old car.

one question I have right now is I have no clue what size the gas tank is? car didnt have an owners manual in it (I ordered a set off ebay yesterday) and the dealer filled the tank for me so I have no clue what it is lol.

TerminatorX5 08-21-2013 08:26 AM

welcome to the forum!!! as we say - no pictures? it did not happen.. well, something to that effect... lol...

your tank is 24 gallons (there is exact number somewhere, as the tank is natively measured in liters but for all the purposes - 24 gallons)...

you might want to create a signature line, something short, like - '01 X5 3.0i, or something very long.... this is to let us know what you have, so we can answer your questions better...

again, welcome!!!

Welcome aboard!! Wheres the pics at?!

lol, I'll grab some at lunch time.

more questions...how do I tell what packages this thing came with?

Also, my driver side rear view mirror looks to be standard glass and the right one looks to be blue glass? Its also got discoloration in the upper left so I'm assuming its a heated mirror and that it must have overheated in the past?

I reply to your thread on bimmerforums. Glad you found us here too, since we're more active on this board.

Put the last 7-digit VIN in HERE and answer simple math question to find your X5 built sheet.

TerminatorX5 08-21-2013 09:05 AM

the russian VIN decoding site now requires a registration and allows 10 look ups a day - if it doesn't work out for you, i can look up your as-built sheet...

stackz 08-21-2013 10:26 AM

last 7 digits are LM90548. I tried that site and it said I had to register. Does the as-built sheet come in a pdf or something that I can print and keep in the glove box? that would be awesome.

and yeah, that was the first place I posted before I even found this specific forum which is much more active and has a lot more info specific to these models.

One thing I'm beginning to notice is the lack of availability of used parts for these.

I'm a big mustang guy and have no issue heading to the local yards or u-pull and finding interior parts, clips, etc. I think I've seen one x5 being parted in the classifieds but it was black/black.

I did find the bavarian guys on ebay but their prices are about as high as mpsautosalvage.com is for mustangs lol. I guess the main reason is due to the demographic that owns bmw cars vs something like mustangs. you wreck your bmw, you take insurance check and buy another and let insurance sell it. mustang guys usually take the check and part the car to the ground and recycle the shell :D

try furiousmethod.com - it will open a dozen or two windows, that will scare you into thinking it is a virus, but what it does, it looks up the part number through various sellers...

our main sites are RealOEM to look up the part numbers, and the WDS for diagrams... diagrams can be very very very confusing... lol...

i buy my parts (not all of them) from BMW of Fairfax, but not from the counter - i go to their website, place an order with a good discount, and then tell the checkout that i will pick up the part - a lot of times very competitive price for an OE part...

give me a sec, i will get you the as-built sheet...

so what exactly does the hifi stereo mean? is that bmw speak for standard stereo?

and I am curious about the business cd player? I'm assuming I-bus is different than can-bus?

sounds like a basic x5 to me which is how it looks haha. and yeah, I've got ashtrays all over this thing. Doesnt look/smell like its ever been smoked in though..
