E53 A/C no cold air
 

2001 X5 4.4, indy shop says the air conditioner works but the DME is the issue. I replaced the DME with no success. Any one have any ideas?

Theres guys that have been on here longer that may be enough for but I'd say more details please like..

1. why did indy say it was the DME?
2. any other codes being thrown?
3. did they test the compressor and do a pressure test of the system and dye?
4. blower works but doesnt get cold?
5. you hear the compressor/clutch kick in?
6. what is his definition of "air conditioner works"?

Indy said... no signal coming from DME
I had 2 Indy's check the compressor. It checked out fine.
Not sure if they did a Dye test.
Blower works fine.
I looked at the compressor from the bottom of the X5, with the A/C on, and at 60 degrees, fan on full blast.... Clutch never engaged
Definition of "Air Conditioner Works"... All systems check out. No leaks, freon full, by-passed DME, Clutch engaged, Blew cold air.

Does your X have the aux electrical fan in the front of the radiator/condenser? You could have a bad aux fan. A bad aux fan will throw out a trouble code, but won't set off the CEL or SES light. Get the X scan by someone with a BMW scanner, not the scanner at Pep Girl or the Autozone.

The fan in front of the Radiator / Condenser fan turn on and stays on when I select the A/C mode on the climate control panel.

If the fan turns on that means it is receiving a signal from the DME. I would check for a break in the wire to the compressor clutch.

Put a test light on the wire from the DME to the Compressor? 12V? that's it? I'm good with mechanical issues... still a dork on wiring. sorry.

If two indy's can't figure it out... Can it be so simple? I guess so.

I had a auto electrical expert test the those, and they said it was either the DME or a relay.????? confused.

Put a test light on the wire to the clutch. The wire to the compressor clutch is 12 volts so that the magnetic clutch will engage, unlike the signal to the aux fan which is a pulse signal so that it control the speed of the fan the faster the pulse, the faster the fan will spin.
