X5 Motor Mounts - original or not?
Need new motor mounts, ugh.
So do I need to get genuine BMW or will aftermarket ones do? I've seen in some BMW forums that Corteco is the OEM for the mounts, is this true and so are they good to go? They are about $35 cheaper each so needing 2, it's a substantial difference. |
You'll spend more money on labor (or your time) to replace the mounts - so don't go cheap. There is an expression in German, "when you buy cheap you buy it twice".

x2 on what Gregory said, in the US its basically the same expression but it rhymes: "Do it right or you do it twice" However, if you knnow that Corteco is the OEM for the engine mounts, and you have found their mounts in their box without the BMW box (basically not OE but OEM), I wouldn't hesitate to use them. I have found with many suspension parts they are made by Lemfoerder and when replacing, you can buy Lemfoerder parts in BMW box for double the price of Lemfoerder parts in the Lemfoerder box. Can you take an engine mount out to see who makes it? |
Genuine BMW Rubber Mounting - 22116770794 - Turner Motorsport
$90 each for Genuine BMW. The aftermarket stuff REIN/CORTECO looks to be $70-$75. Get the Genuine BMW mounts. If there was a Meyle HD version i wouldn't hesitate on that. Lemforder either. But Genuine BMW in this case for just a bit more is a no brainer. |
wow! $80 at this dealership for Genuine!

Are the OE motor mounts on the e53 fluid filled or solid rubber?
Wished VibraTechnics (Bmw - Vibra-Technics Compliance Technology) makes motor mounts for our cars. I have them on my coupe and love them...very little drivetrain movement but still very OE feel in terms of Noise, Vibration, & Harshness (NVH) |
Gregory, Ricky, yeah, "buy once cry once!".
I just happen to have seen in other BMW and European car forums that Corteco is an OEM supplier of these mounts. Pelican lists them as a highly rated OEM also. I saw somewhere they are allegedly the marketing group of Freudenburg. I would love to do a side by side comparison but none here locally. When I pull my mounts will check the markings. Have decided to go original BMW in the absence of confirmation. Interestingly, am also in the market for tie rods and have also come across info that Lemforder is OEM for this part. A look at ECS Tuning's parts pics shows the Lemforders and original BMW as virually identical. So I went for Lemforders for these. |
Rusianblue, thanks for the links! Ordered the parts already at ECS but these are getting bookmarked for future reference, awesome prices!

Dkl, those look to be pretty trick mounts!! I doubt they'll ever bring that out for us, the X's seem to be a red-headed stepchild with a lot less interest by the aftermarket.

Having redone ALL of my front suspension (thrust bushings, control arms and ball joints, as well as the rear (steel control arm with the ball joint that wears out, the removable ball joint in the lower rear aluminum control arms and the link part), I can 100% confirm that the OEM for the E53 is Lemforder.
I used all Lemforder parts, you can do this with no compromises. |
