Greetings

Hello All,

I just wanted to introduce myself. My wife and I picked up our 2004 4.8IS this last weekend. Very excited about our future together with it. This is also our first BMW though not our first European car. I have owned multiple Audi's, VW's and a Porsche in the past.

Looking forward to all of the advice and help that this site and its members can provide.

Thanks
Brian

welcome :D but no pics? :(

kodomokid 09-13-2013 05:05 PM

All I have are pics from the dealer at the moment. I will take some during the weekend.

Just reading up on a potential tranny problem and making me sick to my stomach. Did not pop up during the test drive. Low speed jerk where it doesn't feel like it knows which gear to be in. I think I am traveling at around 30mph or less. No other problems. When I give it some gas it stops the jerking. When I am at higher speeds, no jerking. No noticeable bump in RPMs during the jerking. I may try a fluid and filter change to see what happens. Wish me luck.

Congrats. How many miles on the 4.8?

kodomokid 09-13-2013 05:15 PM

Thank you!

It had a little over 59K on it.

You shouldn't quite be due for a new trans yet. Interested to hear more about your bucking issue.

BimmerM3inGA 09-13-2013 05:37 PM

Welcome! I'm an X5 newb, too! I have found that there is lots and lots of useful information here.

I don't have an FTP to host my pics at the moment but here is a link to see a recent picture of my ride.

At low speed, it tends to buck every 3-5 seconds. It is almost in a rhythm when it happens. Then I accelerate and it stops.

I notice that when it happens, I am very light on the gas, barely pressing the accelerator. Maybe it is the drive by wire acting up? I am not 100% sure on the history of the car. I know the previous owner kept up the maintenance fairly well according to all of the records in a VIN check. Wish me luck. I will let you know what happens after I have the tranny serviced. I see no leaks under the car right now. I will also have them scan the car for codes.

Thanks for the advice. Actually my mechanic is a European car specialist and he owns an X5 himself.

Ricky Bobby 09-14-2013 08:58 AM

Wheels are dirty as hell man! Hahahahah, she looks good though and I wish you luck with it. Great find with low miles!

Welcome to Xoutpost, looking forward to hearing from you and seeing more pics of your ride, make sure to update your signature with Year/Model info and any relevant options, it makes it much easier when troubleshooting problems for members.

Interested to see how your tranny issue sorts out, maybe you just need a reset of the computer? Someone doing one too many neutral drops at stoplights?

kodomokid 09-14-2013 10:22 AM

What? You guys don't like the poorman's Gunmetal Gray wheels??? :D

She's getting a bath this weekend.

I picked up mine for $21K with 59K on the clock. I traded in my 01 Pathfinder SE 5spd manual. I miss the 3rd pedal but I didn't want a 3.0. I was reading about the 6spd swap into a 4.8is. I prefer manuals over autos. The only auto I have had in any of my German cars was a 99 Passat. That 5spd Tiptronic was pretty darn good. Never gave me any problems. It had 120K on the clock I want to say before the timing belt let go. I had the belt and wp replaced at 75K when I was living in Seattle, but upon inspecting the broken belt, it looked to be the original. :wow: Oh well.
