E53 CCV writeup?
I can't find one anywhere. I have searched all over. Anybody have a lead I can follow?
|
for what engine?
|
Yes, but which engine do you have (3.0 six cylinder M54 or 4.4, 4.6 or 4.8 V-8 engine)? Regardless you'll find some rather good videos on Youtube. One of the US based parts retailers has a good one on the M54 engine.

I did mine yesterday. The first video is better. Cuts through the BS. you don't need the 'special' tools from BAVAuto!

Sorry guys, 3.0.

those vids are for a 3.0. the trickiest part for me, believe it or not, was getting that solenoid thing out. when i figure it out though, i was embarrassed how easy it was.
tip 2: i found it easier to remove the TB hose clamps with a 1/4" ratchet and a 7mm socket. tip 3: make sure the TB is aligned properly when you reinstall such that it lines up properly with the MAF tube. tip 4: the hose connecting to the top of the CCV unit, in my case, was a twist-lock design. practice on land before trying it blind. tip 5: the hose connecting to the MIDDLE of the CCV unit (from the vanos area) is a PUSH lock design. took a TON of force to get it to snap on. again, break it in a bit on land. tip 6: the oil drain tube i ordered in my kit was too short....and it think this happens to a lot of folks. be sure you get the one that is long enough for the X5. tip 7: pay close attention to make sure you don't drop shite into never never land. lots of little screws and nuts and bolts to lose.....especially the TB screws. |
