Bike rack

2005 x5 3.0i

Is there any I can use the tow hitch hole (?) in the back to install a hitch mounted bike carrier or do I have to get the whole hitch unit installed inside the bumper?

You need a hitch either factory or after market. If you had an E70 X5 there is a factory bike rack that doesn't require a hitch.
