Wheel set help
Hi everyone, I messed up my rim and need a replacement. I had style 57 and I found a set of X3 wheels for cheap. Both 17inch the difference is my x5 were 235/65/17 and the x3 rims are 235\55\17. also the stock offset rims were 40mm and these are 46mm.
from x5 Star spoke -style 57 size-7,5 x 17 ET 40 to x3- Double spoke - style 112 8 x 17 ET 46 from http://www.angelfire.com/biz7/bmwhee..._wheel_057.jpg to http://www.angelfire.com/biz7/bmwhee..._wheel_112.jpg Will this setup work? The X3 wheel is smaller, so it will spin faster and speedometer is off? and will stick out 6cm? |
Why don't u just keep your tires?

Swap the X5 tires on them should be fine. |
You're conflating wheel size and tire size. The wheels have their own specs (width, diameter, bolt pattern, and offset)...and the tires have their own specs (width, aspect ratio, and diameter).
The x3 wheels have specs that are compatible with the x5...but the x3 uses a different size tire...you need to keep the x5 tire specs in this case. A good 10 minutes on a site like tirerack.com can quickly educate you on the meaning of tire specs so that a situation like this won't throw you off base. They have great info on the meaning of tire specs...give the site a quick look. :) You can see the "wheel" compatibility below...but again, tires are a separate entity to consider...they factor in load rating, speed, weight, suspension, etc. of the vehicle...that's why you'll see a recommended tire & wheel size chart in your owners manual & somewhere on your driver's door or door jamb: http://www.bimmerboard.com/members/q...3%20Update.jpg |
Thanks everyone. figured it was a bad idea and bought a rim and tire instead. now i have alll the steering parts and shock to replace. thanks
