I just want to share MY First MPG, trip
 

I took the x 4.4l to Tahoe, gambled and fished..

I did my best to for mpg.. Averaged freeway speed was 70-75mph up and down the sierra mountains..

I know the MPG average is fairly precise after my gas fill ups. We averaged 17-18mpg mixed city and freeway.

Got a bit better on this road trip. of 600 ish miles.. Im pretty happy considering its a nicer ride than my 4runner and gets about the same MPG.

Thats a pretty good run, I never got anywhere near that with my 4.4 but then here in NZ our roads are nowhere near as good as your freeways.

That would have to be a dream for me.

My best ever was back to back refills from Laramie, WY to Kansas City of 22.7 & 22.6 mpg with one leg of 536 miles. Normally 18.5-20.5 mpg hwy. Still trying to figure out what made those two fill ups so special.

This is my Fuelly for the X5 as I go through college this year. The fill ups in August were on the way down there, strictly highway. The last fill up had some extra highway mileage too.

Sub 20 MPG is usually what I get carting around 5 people in St. Louis to the county, hitting traffic on the way back. Pretty decent so far but I can't wait until my car is running so I can see 24+ MPG all the time.

I usually get 23 to 23.5 on over the road cross country jaunts. That includes the flats of the eastern US as well as the Rockies in Dakotas, Wyo, Colorado, etc. But only 16-17 around town.

My dealer recommends mid-range gas, but since we are now getting 10% ethanol in almost all locations, I've gone to the premium grades all the time.

Interestingly, the service writer at Colo Spgs BMW told me we lose 3% of engine power for every 1,000 feet of elevation above sea level. Which means that at Colo Spgs, which is at 6,000 feet, I'm nearly 20% down in power vs. here at home in NY. And when I go to the top of Pikes Peak, at 14,110 feet, all I've got is about half power! Amazing!

Anyway, the car still runs like a champ!

hmm.. when I drive.. Mixed I usually get 17-18mpg.. My wife gets 16-17..

I try to figure out when and where to brake and gas..

I actually got close to 22. but I averaged out to 21.. and snapped a picture.

We went to the Sierra's, and Lake Tahoe.. It was up and down mountain ranges, elevation was 7-8 thousand feet.. I was not really babying the pedal either at certain spots..

I just did spark plugs, seafoam, and rotella t6 oil change if that helps. Tire pressure is 37psi.. New Sumitomo htr tires 255/55/18.

The tires sucks on grip, but rides smooth with about 500 rated tread. It was the cheapest well reviewed tires. We dont really drive fast on a SAV so H rated does just fine.
