That is almost rightm except that he has a 02 which is the M62 engine and its slightly different.
Sorry not sure about the capacity but it should be around 7.5-8.5Liters Also i think 5w-30 is good. 10w-40 is a good alternative as well

The capacity is 8.5qts. when the filter is changed and it should be.
The proper oil is a premium synthetic oil, API rating SJ/CF or higher--such as Mobil 1---there are many others that work just as well. BMW specifies 5W-30 except in extreme conditions.

If you have an owners manual...this info is in there...I have the N62 (which is different from your M62)...but you can see that the quantity is listed under CAPACITIES in the owners manual...and if you turn to the index in the back or the owners manual...look for VISCOSITY, and that page should give you the BMW recommendation for what type of engine oil is recommended for your M62 engine:

Again, my e53 has the N62 engine...but my e38 (and the e39 I used to have) both had the 4.4 M62 engine and you can see the Oil Viscosity chart below that was in those owners manuals:

Do you have what you needed?

I recently did mine, to the letter of the DIY. I let the old oil drip for over an hour to get as much out as possible and used "shop" paper towels to sop up everything in the filter canister. I put in exactly 8.5 quarts of Castrol EDGE full syn and am 1/4 quart over full.

When I do it again, I'll use 8 quarts and add the last bottle slowly checking the level as I go.

To be on the safe side, and not having to fiddle with draining oil cause i went over, i just always put in less at time of change, idle it or something, come back later and check.

:iagree: and before you add any more than the 8 quarts be sure the new oil is at operating temp.
