Goodbye

Well after 7 years I decided to trade in my 2001 4.4 X5. The last straw for me were the brake lanes rotting out, and almost getting totaled at an intersection. Having owned 2 M3's, 2 325's, a 328IS, and the X5 I can honestly say I am finished with BMW's. I would like to that the creator of this board, the moderators, and all the members, for what I believe to be one of the greatest sites ever. I can't tell you how much money you save me over the years or repairs. My mechanic actually uses this site to help troubleshoot issues, which is saying a lot for the quality of content.

I wish you all much happiness with your X5's as they truly are the greatest car ever made - it's too bad BMW designed things like transmissions, brakelines, and timing gaskets so poorly.

If people need parts let me know - I will be putting up the following on ebay:

- Brand new Blizaak Snow tires (0 miles) on style 58 rims
- Peak reset tool
- Peak airbag reset tool
- X5 manual

I would rather see this go to a fellow enthusiast so shoot me an email at [email protected]

Thanks again for everything

Just curious, what did you trade it for?

Don't laugh but we traded it for a 2011 Lexus HS250H Hybrid for my wife. The X5 got 17.5 mile to the gallon, this gets 35mpg around town. We do 2000 miles a month in driving so I am expecting to save $225 a month in gas, so between the trade in ($5500 for the X), the 6K I put down, the payments are $347- so if I save 225 in gas, the payment will be $127.

Bmw's are definitely not for the faint hearted when it comes to maintenance but for me and many others I love my X so much more than any American/Japanese competitor that I just handle it, and will do so forever on my 02 x5 4.6is with 127k miles, and loving every moment of it....getting ready for $750 for a steering column U-joint replacement....BTW, I turned 18 about a week ago and everyone thinks I'm crazy to have and maintain my X at this age but its been amazing for 16k miles and enjoy DIY a lot.

If you do that much driving, it makes sense to get a Hybrid. I only do about 500 miles a month and my wife 4.8iS only does about 350 miles a month.
At least you get a luxury hybrid :D

Seems that $5500 trade in value is coming up a lot on the forum for the early M62 E53s. Good luck with the Lexus.

Good Bye and enjoy the Lexus.

Break lines rotted? Glad you're OK, John. I have a 2001 and when I did brakes last summer they looked fine when I cleaned them off to inspect but guess its something I should keep an eye on.

Best of Luck. Who knows, maybe we'll see you back again.

You know you'll really miss that X.

Glad you are ok. What manual do you have?

The Magnesium Chloride and salts spread on iced/snow packed roads attacks the rubber and metals if they're not cleaned off regularly. Shouldn't be an issue in OK.

My X is over 10yrs/175k miles and the lines look good. FL & TX use.
