Front Passenger Window Issue...
I purchased my 2006 X5 3.0 last November and I love this vehicle. Everyone on here knows why ;)
The vehicle runs great, but I noticed that when rolling down the front passenger window, there would be a easily noticeable click, or thump, sound once the window is just a couple inches from being completely rolled down. I stopped rolling the window down that far because I didn't like hearing that sound. Last night, I accidentally rolled the window all the way down and have yet to get it to come back up. When I pull up on the switch to begin rolling it up, the motor starts bringing the window back up, but it stops, as if it were being blocked by something. The window starts coming up, but not enough to even pinch it with my fingers. Maybe 1 or 2 millimeters are sticking up from the door. Did anyone else have this problem? I went to AutoZone, but they didn't know what to do! ;) I called the dealership and they said that they couldn't help me without looking at it, but I don't want to pay $500+ for something that I can easily fix myself. I really appreciate any advice or help. Thanks |
Sounds like a typical problem with the plastic clips that hold the glass on the regulator. Do a search, I and a couple of other members have had this issue and were able to fix it ourselves.

Thanks! I figured it was those clips for the regulator… When you had the problem on your BMW, did it try to rollup? Meaning, could you hear the motor turn on, but it was just sticking were stuck? Thanks

Search for "window regulator fix" there should be a couple old threads detailing how to get the door panel off and how to access the window regulator, and you're absolutely right it would be ridiculous to pay a dealer to diagnose for this, if its just the clips that need replacing then that is well and good and I would try to do that first. Sometimes the whole regulator is mangled though, which is about 150 per side if I recall.

The exact same thing happened to me on Friday!!! Same window, front passenger. I guess I'll have to open it up to see if it is just the clips or the regulator. Fixing this nitpicky stuff is what makes me regret having a beamer. I love the X5, but as far as reliability...I am starting to miss my Toyota 4Runner.

Ehh at least clips are about 2 bucks..
