^Thanks for all of that info!! you're the man. I'm def going to have time tonight to clean it all up and start playing around with these little fixes.
I really do not think that the mirror motors are what is causing the battery to drain. From those DIY's it sounds like the issues I have are very much unrelated to the motors and more just sensors so there is no way they could drain the battery. There are a few other little interior things I want to take care of. The tabs on a few of the hvac buttons are broken off so I want to replace them. They stay in place fine in normal use but if you pull out on them they will come out and I'm sure i'll accidentally suck them out with a vacuum at some point. I noticed this last night. I see you can get full sets for like $70 which I guess is reasonable. The leather wrap on the drivers door armest is sort of detached from its bracket. Also the leather around the shifter is starting to seperate from its bracket around the back. I think both of those are going to be an issue of time and some glue. The one other thing is that the little black insert / ring that goes around the drivers door lock post is missing. I'm gonna have to find one of those but that seems like its going to be tricky to find. |

I could see if the mirror motor contacts are gummed up and constantly "working" to try to close, that it could be a battery drain because the motors would be constantly drawing power trying to close, etc. For the interior buttons I had to change 2 when I bought my X. you can buy the whole panel for 75 or so, or just change the broken buttons using www.ihkabuttons.com The drivers door armrest and your shift boot issue look like you just need to spend some time reattaching them, the leather on the drivers door panel probably needs to be rescured from behind which means you need to pop the door panel off, very easy to do. The shifter probably needs some hot glue at the base for the boot. And as far as the piece around the drivers door lock post goes, tricky find? Not so much, spend enough time around here and stuff like that is easy. About 6 bucks at your local dealer. Hey much thanks on those mirror fixes I got them functioning perfectly now and it was actually really easy! Also took care of the two pieces of leather that need some glue.
As far as that battery drain goes I am fairly certain it is not the mirrors. There is a sound that seems to be coming from the hvac controls that sounds like one of those little pumps on a fish tank. With the car off you can heaR it. When the fuse for the mirrors and rear door locks is pulled it stops and when you put it back in it starts back up. I have a feeling this is what was draining the battery for the PO. I wish I knew what it was tho. As for the sunroof. . .I got the button plugged back in and that thing is def not doing so hot. I didn't try raising the rear but the main glass side backwards fine but when you go forwards it stops every 4-6 inches same thing with the roof panel. I saw some pieces of broken plastic in there and it makes the typical crackling and pop noise of failing bmw windows. At some point I will probably order the repair kit but its not gonna be a huge priority being that it is almost winter. |
better late then never here are the pictures. I am taking it to get tinted on Saturday and it is agonizing to me for the time being haha.

Very nice! The hitch on mine is rusted like that too. It only bugs me when I see it; then I think about what it will take to remove it & repaint it properly... Other jobs have higher priorities. ;)

Wow curcio, it really is clean and well equipped! What a great find for you, and I love the color! I know you wanted black, and when I was looking I really wanted alpine white, but I think its nice to have a rare car like this in a lesser seen color!
So many black and silver x's in my opinion, nice to see a different color, and since owning my Topaz I get a lot of compliments on it since it's not as popular of a color. The hitch can be repainted with a can of rust oleum on a Saturday just drop the bumper and spray away. You're probably itching for that tint! My eyes burn just looking at that fishbowl, I am at 15% all around, the fronts are 15 and they had to put 20% over the stock rear tint to match the front! Looks gorgeous and I love my privacy! Can't wait to see it done what % you going with? |
^ We're def on the same page here! I was going to pull the bumper off and paint the hitch last night but I ran out of time because I ended up spending 4 hours detailing the interior. Glad to here I am not the only one that hates clear glass, I seriously cannot stand it. I'm going with 15% as well. That is what I have on the e46 and I like it a lot. I wanted to get in Monday but Saturday was the earliest they could fit me in. I think the tint will accent the color well.
It is honestly mind boggling to me that this car has been on the road 9 years and nobody ever tinted it. Aside from the fact that it looks like a fishbowl, do people not realize how much more comfortable it is to drove in a tinted car?? |
They don't realize it until they have it.
My wife drove for almost 10 years with an un-tinted car, and about a year or so after we started dating, she bought a new 2011 Rav4. Drove it for about 6 months and told me she wanted to get her front windows done to match the rear (20%), and also the sunroof glass at 5% and 5% sun visor strip (which I have done on my X5 as well) Well she got that done and hasn't complained since, she actually gets in my Mother-in-law's untinted car and complains to her all the time, she is the one saying "mom god the sun is so bright in here why don't you get this car tinted!" LOL I love it and I love the fact that I converted her! Will definitely never drive in a fishbowl, I have sensitive eyes as is and can't stand the sun. |
