Side mirrors
Hey Guys and Gals,
When I put the car in reverse the passenger side mirror automatically points down to show the curb. But when I put it the car in drive the mirror stays in the down position. I have to manually (with the mirror remote on the drivers door ) readjust it. Anyone come across this problem ? Any fixes ? Thanks |
Take off the cover. Clean contacts and lube the mechanism.

Second the above. There's a good walk through on the procedure floating around here somewhere. If you're not overly familiar with how the mirror assembly comes apart I'd highly reccomend at least giving it a quick read!

Thanks everyone. I found the write up but it shows accessing the motor by removing the mirror. I don't think it will be difficult to access the motors because my mirror cover is loose. What is the proper way to secure the cover. Does it just snap on ? I've tried but it still comes loose with little pressure. Maybe there is a clip or something I'm missing. Nothing seems to be broken on the cover or the frame.
Thanks again |
Our '01 also does that on occasion, for no apparent reason...
Before you dig into the mirror itself, I would try moving the mirror select button from left to right, back and forth a couple times, with car on and doing some backing and forward driving motion. Ours always 'comes back to its senses' after that simple procedure. I keep mirror select button set so right mirror does not dip, when in reverse, and find the mirror dip situ only happens a couple times of year, usually when using my CEO's set of keys, fwiw. These cars have minds of their own, on occasion. :D If that doesn't cure it, go to the fix it step. GL, mD |
