Looking for a Subwoofer
 

Hey everyone,
I want a nice and mild subwoofer for my 2006 BMW X5 with Navi. I really want one that fits in the car and is not to loud but has the potential to be loud. Thanks

I havent gotten around to installing mine, but check out BSW they have a stealth kit with amp..

JL Stealthbox or BSW are your best nearly plug/play solutions.

Alternately, there are DIY sub boxes in xoutpost to consider.

Keep in mind these ones listed above are shallow subwoofers. Which to my research can't produce deep base like a normal subwoofer. I'm not saying they won't suit your needs, but something to keep in mind. I think the X has enough room for a box in the trunk anyway.

Good point. My own preference is for a stealth install, but if you want a big box in the back, the sky's the limit for a sub.

A stealth install would definitely be nice, I just would have to here one to make a decision. Maybe even dual if you could relocate all the components in the left compartment. I was persobally looking at this:

I have a small setup I did just from a sub/enclosure i had sitting around and an amp that i took out from my audi.

The setup still has the OE subs playing, and this on top, i tuned the amp so this gets the deeper / lower bass notes better then the small ones behind the cover.

- Clarion XR2210 Amp

- Kicker 10" CVR

- Sealed Enclosure


Most setups doing it this way you need a line output converter, then run a double rca cable from line output to amp, but that clarion has one "built in" so to say, regardless same setup either way, just without the "built in" you wire in the line output and need the rcas then...

I have mine tapped into the wiring on the left panel in trunk, and the amp turns on if the radio/cd is on, if they are off its off.


Positive wire + fuse i have ran in the battery in trunk, ground is grounded under a bolt on the chassis in back, and rest wired in etc.


Heres some pics back when i was installing, i chose my amp location there since its easy access, and hidden, if i need to take out the spare or do something under that cover, i just lift it up off the velcro and put it to the side.

A friend of mine had the BSW sub/amp and its truly amazing for the size.. That amd itmbeimg completely stealth are the reasons I went that route. I had considered the JL as that has been my go to for many many years. But you gotta love a company dedicated to your BMW. Soon i want to add the stage 1 upgrade speakers into all doors and tweeters... Im really waiting on the daynthey come out with the amp to match them, although I hear just the speakers alone are 1000 times better than stock..
Youd be surprised what a 8" woofer can do if the box is tuned properly like the BSW setup..
Personally im not interested in vibrating my BMW pieces and causing excess rattle when im not blasting my stereo. Nor am i wanting to stick a box in the trunk so thieves can break in and cause more damage to my car than the speaker was even worth..

The BSW option would be a good place to start considering its ease of install, and performance. If you wanted to go a step up from that, I'd recommend something like a 8" Kicker L7....It's still small enough to tuck into the side cabinet (you will have to build a custom box), but will definitely fill your requirement of "potential to be loud". If you aren't planning on upgrading the rest of the speaker in the X, going beyond something like the L7 is overkill as it will completely overpower the rest of the factory system.

I did a whole system in my X many moons ago with Alpine Type-r's in all the doors and a 10" sub out back (it's something like 500W rms), and that thing has more than enough jam you rattle your teeth if need be....That kicker L7 should be more than enough in your case.

Then again, if you decide cargo space is not very relevant, you can do something like this....;)
