Transmission Mount DIY?

Is there anything I need to know before I start on replacing transmission mount on my 4.4i, or is it as simple as supporting the tranny and taking stuff off till I get to the mount?
Any feedback?
Thanks guys!

Never been under there on an X5, but on many BMW's, it is that simple.

Looks like it's a little more complicated on these beasts than on most BMWs;
BMW Workshop Manuals > X Series E53 X5 4.8is (N62-S) OFFRD > 2 Repair Instructions > 22 Engine And Gearbox Suspension > 32 Transmission Suspension, Autom. Transmis > 1 RA Replacing Rubber Mount For Transmission Mounting

RealOEM.com * BMW E53 X5 3.0i Gearbox suspension

Looks like you support the trans, pull the crossmember, then deal with the mount. No telling if the tools specified in the workshop manual is necessary or not...

Thanks for the manual link man!
..looks doable enough. Not sure what Circolight is...a lubricant or adhesive?? and maybe I will manage without the fancy clamp tools. Ill do it on my day off and try to write it up here.
Thanks!!

Nope not simple on our cars. There is actually a special tool to press it out of the spot. I got as far as being able to remove the mount, but after looking at it, there is no way I would have been able to get the new one in. You need that special tool to get it done.

Thanks Slick, the manual says to apply "circolight" on the new mount before installing. It seems BMW shop supply and from what i can understand its a lubricant that will reduce the force to press the new bushing back in. I will just get some other bushing lubricant and go for it. Would be nice to find a way to rent the tool, because it will not save me any money if I have to buy it. Not cheap. $200 +
