Amp mounting trick for BSW or other...
 

I've had my BSW kit for quite awhile now..
My main reservation has been where they suggest you mount it.. I don't like it. By the spare and zip tied didn't appeal to me.. Plus I have the pull out luggage loading rack which is rad except there's 2 layers to deal with to get to the amp.. So here was my solution.

I have deleted the cd changer with dice duo and spec deck.. So first I used the changer and mounting brackets for measuring.. Putting the amp on top of the cd changer/ between brackets..

Btw here's the aluminum stock I used

So chop that off, put it in your vice and use a rubber mallet to get a 90 angle. Be sure to have the mark line about 1-2 mm to allow for the bend.Attachment 60970

Next your going to want to drill your holes with a #29 bit so you can use a hand tap (you can get these kits at Home Depot etc.. ( on the BSW amp your going to want to drill a center hole for the side plate and measure about back 1/16 off center for you amp ear to clear the arch on the BMW mounting bracket. Attachment 60976. Whoops!

(Dremel these off too for clearance issues)

As an after note I redid this install using a few more inches of material for support on the bottom of the amp..
I would recommend about 3/4 to mount to the bracket and 3 to 4 inches to support the amp

I just don't think that many of us have upgraded amps to use the "mounting solution" lol

How do you like the sub? I had mine installed yesterday, after having let it sit for a couple of months because I couldn't bring myself to cut/splice wires from the factory amp.

I'm still trying to form an opinion on it, but I'm hovering around "mildly disappointed." It hits too hard for my taste. I haven't gotten around to fine tuning it yet, though. Complements my new front components well though.

I have two amps that may some day get installed ( I am pretty satisfied with the sound)

I'm curious though, seeing as the amp is only mounted on one side, does it not bounce around/vibrate? (I guess it's highly dependent on the weight of the amp)

It doesn't weigh much.. The aluminum stock I used is thick enough so it doesn't have any flex... Extra supports could be easily added if needed.. But if you think about it everything else mounted in there from factory is only mounted on the front side as well...

As far as the sound goes I love it.. I've had lots of systems and tuning practice tho..
If it's too LOUD try turning your gains down a bit at a time to suit your tastes..
If it's too BOOMY slowly adjust the cutoff frequency.. 90 hz is going to be very deep low bass.. Turning up to 100 hz is going to start "tightening" up the response.. You may even want to go higher to 110 or 120+ hz range if you like really tight bass!
All a matter of what kind of music you listen to and personal taste...

Also go out to a parking lot at night and blast it then turn the volume down to about 3/4 full blast... Then do your adjustments.. I recommend a parking lot so your neighbors don't kill you
