what under coating is recommended for x5`s
just wonderring if I should get my mint shape x5 under coated for the winter or not ,don`t know how hard it would be on all the sensors for this type of sav. ?:dunno:

If you mean something along the lines of coating the entire underside with the equivalent of something like a gravel guard (rubbery spray on coating), then no. Most of the underside is already covered by shields or plates anyway. Aside from not driving it in the winter months, just rinse it off thoroughly underneath when at the car wash and you'll be fine.

Plastidip the entire bottom of the car. I noticed that's a new thing in my neighborhood

it will be driven in the winter months where you get lots of salt and snow in northern ont , didn`t know if I should get it rust checked or krown . krown I don`t like cause its realy dirty and doesn`t stop dripping .or in the winter months should I just go to a diy carwash and clean underneath once a month?

My '03 has been driven in the norwegian winter with lots of snow and salt. No rust! I have it washed underneat as often as I can.

The risk of any coating--unless there is a rust killer treatment prior to the coating rust you may not see will continue undetected. |
Use the self service car wash once every couple weeks in winter and spray the salt off the body and undercarriage as best you can, a couple bucks in quarters goes a long way.
I usually head there the day after a snowstorm if I have been driving in the storm, once the roads are plowed. Do this after each big snow or more often if you are anal about blasting salt buildup like I am. Been doing this with all my cars for years in Jersey with no issues with rusting, excessive corrosion, etc. I put a nice coat of wax on prior to winter months and if I am lucky enough to get 2 complete car washes (I.e. with buckets, soap and mitts, and drying, not just spraying down with the car wash hose gun) during the winter I am happy. And come spring I give my car an awesome complete wash when it's warm enough in the driveway and no ill effects from the winter months to note. |
