X5 E53 3.0D - Won't accelerate and stays under 2000rpm...

This has happened twice now. I pulled off the drive and found that there was no power and it won't accelerate. Foot flat down, it stays under 2000rpm. I stopped for 1 minute and restarted and it seemed fine again.
This has also happened again recently, so thought I'd ask for some advice.
INFO:
I have recently had an oil service (2wks back) and inspection I (Friday 31st Oct). When I had the oil service the garage informed me that the X was awaiting an Inspection I which was 1100 days old!... I've only had the X for just over 1 year and the dash has never shown this. Hence the reason why the services are so close together.
The lack of power was on the Saturday after the Inspection I and Monday night (4th Nov).
Any advice would be appreciated?
Thanks.

Maybe something wasnt connected properly,at the oil service!Get them to recheck their work.
Also ,do you have a EML (engine management light) on,when the fault occurs???You should have !

Our son had this too, on his X5, also a 3.0 diesel. He is in another country, so I can't ask him what exactly the problem was, but it had something to do with the exhaust manifold being cracked and letting exhaust gases go to the air filter and clogging it. They also damaged something in the air intake, but I am not sure what. Is there a MAP sensor there?

I'll ask him tomorrow and let you know.

Thanks sv1cec.
I did have my air filter replaced so i'm interested to hear what the problem was....

Well, I asked our son, but ... Houston, we have a problem.

The problem is that the shop where they fixed his car is in Ukraine (he lives there). So they told him what the problem was, in Ukrainian. It was impossible for him to translate that either to Greek (he doesn't know any technical terms in Greek) or to English (his English are not that good either).

So the best I can say is that there should be some air mass sensor after the air filter and before the intake manifold, and it was that sensor that was clogged by the exhaust gases.

Sorry if I built up your expectations for nothing, but that's the best I managed to figure out from him. I know that they changed that sensor and his X5 is just fine.

I think something is triggering the engine management system to cut power. No dash lights warnings or readouts. Are you able to read computer error codes to help narrow the possibilities. There are many problems that can cause the EMS to cut power.

Since my original post, this has happen about 6 times with twice happening when I'm driving and not from starting. A restart seems to cure it though. Still no reason why or any dash warning lights.
I have the software to connect so will review codes and post back findings ASAP.
However if nothing happens on the dash will I still get error codes that relate to the problem?
Thanks for your help.

Not all error codes will trigger a light on the dash.

Since my last post the lack of power has happened twice.
The error codes read 1/12/13 are:
EWS
0f (015) Power on reset

SRS
50 (080) Power Supply, undervoltage (supplemental Restraint System)

IKE
BD (189) Electronic braking – force distribution

LCM
5B (091) Level washer fluid
62 (098) MRS sent occupancy recognition fault
92 (146) Left brake light
94 (148) Rear left fog light
95 (149) Rear right fog light
96 (150) Left reversing light
97 (151) Right reversing light
99 (153) Licence plate light

NAV
05 (005) Temperature high
4 errors – description unavailable

All error codes reset except the one above in red, so i did another scan...
After rescan:
SRS
50 (080) Power Supply, undervoltage (supplemental Restraint System)

ZKE
95 (149) Interior security, fuse or cable
8A (138) DWA-Alarm : tilt alarm sensor
80 (128) DWA-Alarm : Terminal R

All reset except the same error code:
SRS
50 (080) Power Supply, undervoltage (supplemental Restraint System)

Does anybody recognise an error code that maybe linked to the drop in power?
Also does anybody know what the SRS error code is referring to?
Thanks.

SRS is airbag code--need a code reader that will reset the code, not all scanners have the capability. Suggest you clear the code and see if it returns.
