Could be a dead battery or a bad alternator base on the code.

9444/03 - Long-time low voltage

Get a voltmeter and check the voltage of the battery with the engine not running and with the engine running.

So took it to garage today as bmwcoder didnt display the faults
Apparently there misfire on cylinder 2,3,6,7,8
The guy at garage said it's quite sporadic
And said if it was only running on 3 cylinders id certainly
Tell and it would prob barely run so doesn't think all 5
Misfired at exact time

Again, this sounds like the "intermediate lever issue" (hopefully you have googled or searched for the past many threads about this issue so that you can understand what may be happening).

If this is the issue...you can either throw money at trying to fix it...or get used to it being an idiosyncrasy of the N62 engine (usually happens in cooler temps)...and get yourself an OBD II reader/scanner (or use the software/hardware you have) so that you can clear the OBD II codes that get set when the levers get out of sync (which is going to cause the misfires & set the fault codes)...and learn how to quickly turn the engine off when you detect the misfiring (the lumpy idle etc)...then wait a few seconds then try a restart to see if the levers get back into sync.

If the SES/CEL warning light comes on from the scenario above, then pull the codes (will probably be misfires etc) and clear them with your reader/scanner. In 99% of cases...the codes do not come back if they came from the out of sync levers...which are now back in sync.

Some have even suggested to press the gas pedal down slightly on very cold days and keep the RPM above 1000 for a few seconds to insure against valves sticking (which gets the levers out of sync).

bmw scanner 1.40 reading engine fault??

ive had some issues with misfiring on my 2005 4.4 e53 and the engine light came on so would assume logged some faults..
i have bmw scanner 1.40 interface and used this though i couldnt see the egine fault codes (so be fair on the 3 pages of different system) it showed very litle

took car to a garage who read the fault codes as misfire on cylinder 2,3, 6,7,8 however why doesnt my bmw scanner see these faults? is there a particular page i should be looking at?

i just dont want to pay another £45 for diagnostics if my kit will do it.

With BMW scanner, scan the vehicle then double click the 3 letter abbreviation of the module in question to display te codes (Eg: DME, LCM, EWS etc

DME will be for engine code FYI.

hi all so I soldered pins 7+8 today and bingo I now have DME(digital motor electronics) and EGS (electronic gearbox control)

dme shows misfire in cylinder 5,4,1,8 (before it was 2,3, 6,7,8,)

however EGS showed the following fault which is still present
5118 (20760) "info counter1 - EGS-Reset"

any ideas?

If you haven't checked for codes for some time clear them and see what comes back.

I wouldn't jump to the conclusion that the problem is intermediate levers as there are many other potential causes for misfires.

The garage read the codes but didn't suggest what may be the problem?

Did you ever have your battery and alternator check like I suggested in my first post to you?

I haven't yet had battery or alternator checked. Money bit tight atm

Any idea on what gearbox fault could be referring to?
