My first BMW

Well, I'm jumping in headfirst with a black '03 X5 3.0i.
Still waiting to pick her up, but was sold the moment I took her on the test drive.

Planning to plastidip the wheels. Thinking to go with Anthracite, maybe same for the X5 logos. Any thoughts?

:worthless:

Congrats on the SAV. I would leave those tiny wheels alone until I can upgrade them.

Brandon002 11-21-2013 12:55 PM

If you don't have a service history or warranty I would hold off on any modifications until you have a chance to go over the car with a fine toothed comb. Most used X's have some sort of maintenance that was skipped over at some point. I usually dive right in and replace belts, hoses, coolant, oil etc... for peace of mind.

Get out of my head Charles!!!

j/k, congrats! :)

puddinboo 11-21-2013 01:50 PM

professorx5 if you don`t mind me asking what did you pick it up for and how many km? i just picked 1 up in vaughn same year as yours, same engine also. mines silver as you can see by my sig.

ProfessorX5 11-21-2013 01:55 PM

Thanks, folks :)

LOL @ tiny wheels. Not sure if I'd go for bigger rims, since I'm pretty short and don't want to have to climb. ;)

I picked up a warranty in the deal that covers the engine, trans, gaskets and seals, and other stuff. Brakes are new, so's the exhaust, suspension seems to have some relatively new parts, and a lot of the hoses look pretty new, but will be taking a closer look at belts and other items. Fluids looked clean, too.

Got it for $6500, 272KM, but seemed to ride really well and did nicely in my 'leadfoot' test drive. The silver looks great on the X, but the last silver one I wanted got snapped up. Guess that was you, haha.

Actually bigger wheels with proper tires won't make it any higher than the tiny wheels already on there. :p:

Congratulations!

Pics!!!!!!

I didn`t have a choice on color ,but silver is alot easier to look after compared to the dark colors ,easier to buff also.
I had to pay extra for my warranty which covers about the same as yours with a 250.00 deductable. good for 3yrs or $8000.00 unlimited km`s. yeah the ride in the x5 is better than when I got my g6 brand new ,thats what got me hooked on it,besides I wanted an suv/sav. drove some ford escapes , chev equinox and hyundai tucson ,those road like tanks and interiors werent much better either.

good choice. you won't regret it! enjoy your new x5!

X5SND 11-21-2013 05:05 PM

Very nice! Let us see pics if you decide to plastidip those 57's anthracite grey. I'm considering the same on my Sienna Red.

ProfessorX5 11-21-2013 05:16 PM

Ricky Bobby 11-21-2013 06:03 PM

Well Gary if you're like me, every time she is down for maintenance I like to do a little "upgrade" just to show her how much I love her, and in hopes she won't break on me terribly soon. LOL

go for it, if you want some that are slightly more OE looking but are dark colored, check my thread from last week to see the ones I went with
