Zinc Plated doesn't look plated AT ALL.......

Hi everyone,

Bought a set of Power Stop drilled & slotted rotors from buybrakes.com for my 01' X5 3.0i. It said "Zinc plated" on the website, but when I received it, it doesn't look plated at all to me. Maybe I was wrong. Please help.

here's some pictures I took after I put them on. Thx!

I think it may be. If it rusts thenj its not lol

Why is the "hat" in multiple pieces instead of a solid single piece?

"Powerstop" and "buybrakes.com"
Does sound pretty sketchy

Drilled and slotted rotors on an SAV? What's the point?

A solid rotor is going to give you better braking performance on an every day driven vehicle.

There Are different zinc coatings available...not all have that distinctive gold hue.

Agree, different thickness according to the Spec. But pretty obvious machining grooves, which shouldn't appear under Zinc plating, I guess, unless the feed speed during the turning operation is super aggressive. :dunno:

It was mentioned in a brake discussion thread recently on the forum, and I saw JCL mentioned about buybrakes.com

Another funny thing is, since we were talking about Axxis pads very much in that thread, this brand is completely out of stock. lol. :D

I disagree. The "anti-corrosion" coating found on most brake rotors is no where near thick enough to fill the machine marks on the Hat. Something like a powder coating, (where the coat is many times thicker) would definitely fill em. It's tough to tell by from the pics....but I would venture to say that based on the color and sheen of those rotors....they would be consistent with a zinc coating of some sort.
