Help! Need to identify this cooling system part?

Hi All -

We had a hose assembly from the cooling system on our 2003 E53 4.4 break apart. We tried jury rigging it with a hose clamp but, unfortunately, that just compressed and broke another part.

The hose that broke is BMW part 11537500746 I believe... you can see it with the hose clamp in the picture below (please feel free to confirm!)

You'll also see, circled, another part. I think it's comprised of a larger piece with at least one hose pre-attached to it. I went through RealOEM.com * Diagram Selection and can't seem to figure out what part to order. Help?

Yes, you have the correct part number. That's the upper radiator hose. and it does look confusing, it's 3 hoses in one. One goes between the waterpump and radiator, one to the alternator, and one to the transmission cooler. Just the one part number is all you need.

But, notice the color of the plastic on that hose, any other hoses that have a similar color will also need to be replaced as they will fail the same anytime now. and if you can, I'd replace all the hoses from this page:

Thanks but I should have been clearer. I need to replace the hose set and have the part # for that... but I'm trying to identify the circled part that the hose connects to. If you look at the pictures you'll see it's cracked.

P.S. We've replaced the entire cooling system except for that one set of hoses... including the radiator, reservoir and everything in between.

Your circled part look like part of the water pump to me. I circle it here.

labatt, the part you circled in the first picture is indeed part of the upper radiator hose, the part number that you already found. Just to clarify, the ugly brown plastic thing that is cracked? You can't see the waterpump in that picture. That hose fitting is another quick disconnect fitting just like the other ends of the hoses that attach everywhere else in your system. The new one will be black. That nylon plastic material turns that ugly brown when it gets old and brittle and is about to fail just like yours did.

Nice catch... I assumed the broken piece was on the pump side but it looks like you're right - it's probably the piece that broke off of the hose. I ordered one and will know for sure on Friday when I wrange the old hose out.

That same hose failed on me right after I replaced the radiator. Same type of failure, the rubber portion is still in good shape but the plastic bit at the end got all crumbly.
