nice find. as a fellow 4.8is owner welcome! like everyone else said leave the tranny alone. unless your having issues, as for the service life of your diff/transfer case fluids about 60k for a fluid change. and also a good way to find. out the service history of your vehicle as far as your warranty history (potentially up.to 100k miles) is to contact your local dealer and inquire about.the history with the vin ready. goodluck!

Trans flush = no,
But draining fluid, dropping pan, change filter, replace gasket and replace with new fluid will do no harm. Its all about doing it the proper procedure, and you need to have diag software to check the temps etc, people make it sound alot harder then it is most of the time. Its 250$ or so for fluid/pan gasket/filter vs 500+ at indy easily. Depending on your skill level, you need some jackstands, sockets/ratchets/torx bits and inpa/dis. I DIY everything from my car and 3 household, X is alot easier to work on in this case cause its a higher car, i did a trans drain/pan drop/filter on my older b5 a4, and you have alot leas room because of how low my car was (sport pkg), It required almost basically the same procedure as the X including temp, being level, software etc, and i changed that out at 137k, they are known for auto trans issues as well (ZF trans) and the car shifted and ran like new after that. Flush can get particles where they shouldnt be but alot of people here really need to stop bitching abt the liftime fluid cause its bullshit, draining your engine oil and refilling makes the car run better, why would this do otherwise for a trans? Same goes for engine, flush not recommended cause of dislodging things. I already did my front + rear diffs 1 week after i bought it at 63k last year, but i will be doing transfer case and transmission sometime within next 2 months and will post a guide as well. |
Congrats! Welcome to the forum!

Thanks again for the great info! The previous owner just sent me the service history since he's owned it... Milages and dates seem odd but the car was CPO until 100k miles which means it was properly fixed by BMW! (well we have a better chance of it being properly fixed LOL)
We have it in at a BMW performance shop getting some little things done to it... Trailer hitch install, coolant flush, oil change, transmission service (I'm guessing not a flush but I'll make sure to ask when we pick it up) "Purchase history: Purchase date: 3/20/2010 Mileage: 63,239 Pre-owned warranty coverage when I purchased: July 26, 2011 or 100,000 miles Purchased from dealer in Wisconsin: Bergstrom Neenah Ford Owner of the BMW was good friends with the owner of this Ford dealer - the 1st owner was a prominent business family in this area of Wisconsin and spent a good part of the year in West Palm, FL Traded BMW in to buy a domestic model car Tires & Wheels: 2 275/40ZR-20 Continental Extreme Contact DWS XL (4/3/2012 installed) 2 315/35ZR-20 Continental Extreme Contact DWSXL (4/3/2012 installed) 4 18x8 Elbrus I06 BDC ICE (3 seasons use) 4 255/55R-18 Pirelli Scorpion Ice and Snow (3 season use) Maintenance history: 8/24/2010 (67,345): replaced left front CV boot and left front control arm 12/02/2010 (75,015): oil service 5/23/2011 (77,385): replaced right front strut, oil service 7/29/2011 (80,785): replaced wheel bearing / hub, replaced axel and boot 11/23/2011 (85,004): oil service 4/3/2012 (89,347): mount, balance tires, alignment and fixed coolant leak, oil change 12/16/2012 (98,243): oil service 4/5/2013 (102,243): full service: spark plugs, air filter, cabin filter, general system check 4/25/2013: air suspension compressor, instrument cluster" |
Welcome to the forum.... It's an addictive ride

Really odd that one strut was replaced. Always replace struts/shocks in pairs. Same with the control arm on the left side. I find these two things odd.
