Rear Blower Inop

I have a 2003 X5 3.0. 182,000 miles, still running strong. Have been ignoring me not having heat or ac for the rear passengers mainly because I don't carry anybody in the rear. But now curious. If I play with the rear fan speed, sometimes it blows, rarely. And sometimes I feel it come out very slightly. Possible switch or blower motor (rear). Any help greatly appreciated.

so... it operates... but inconsistently, right? that points out a poor connection, chaffed wire, possible grounding, short or similar cause...

pop the inside tray that holds cassettes/CDs/or just an empty bin - it just pulls out with enough force from your fingers... look at the wires inside, they might be shorting... check to see if the airduct/tube is inserted correctly - when the bin is out, turn the AC blower on, and listen for escaping air...

let us know if you find anything... good luck

Just and FYI...the blower you have in the vent at the rear of your center console is an option. The HVAC system delivers air to the rear passengers to vents that are built into the floor...below the front seats.

So if you wanted to specifically deliver "heated" air to any rear passenger...select the floor vent air direction button and the HVAC system will close the defrost and dash vent flap doors and direct all air to the floor vents...the 2 in the front and the 2 below the front rear seats that are for the rear passengers.

(#2 & #4 are the visible floor vents located beneath the front seats that blow air to the rear passengers as well as #1 which goes to to the vent at rear of ctr console)

And just like the main HVAC blower that has a FSR/FSU (final stage resistor/final stage unit)...so does the option rear blower. If the blower is erratic...you might want to check its "regulator" (#2 in the diagram below):
