Chandys Aero pkg X would look crazy with these! |
I understand/can appreciate the rarity of these wheels....but am I the only one that thinks they're the definition of ugly? (Like the 1990's kind that doesn't age well! Lol).

First time I saw them I didn't like, after viewing a few days later I liked them more. FWIW, I've always liked Alpina design items, all the way back to the 2002tii parts.
Alpina has been tuning BMWs for around 40yrs. This is the X for those wheels........ |
I think they look pretty good, heres a guy that follows me on instagram from europe has a 4.8 thats lowered like our group and has these...

Those wheels make the aero kit look so much better!
Seeing them on an E53 made me put in an offer on them! |
Meaty!
|
|
They're in my back yard (so to speak) if anyone is thinking of pulling the trigger could have a look for ya!
Me I have to pass, but they do look cool! |

I'm guessing these wheels are gonna be forged...so they shouldn't be much heavier than a set of 20" reps. It'd Be interesting to know where they stood in terms of weight though! |
They are 34lbs front and 36lbs rear.
|
Nice and not common too!
TiAgX5, for a variety of reasons I too want to stay with the staggered 19's for my 3.0. What lightweight wheels did you get? Looking fir something different from my current style 63's. |

Tiag I'd like to see those wheels on your X! Hope you offered like 2k lol.
After seeing the blue X from Europe I guess they could work. I think it needs slight lowering, iS kit, and running boards to pull the look off. I absolutely think the aero kit is hideous and doesn't ever look good on an X, adding 3500 dollar wheels wouldn't help it IMO. |

If I end up with them, the KW coilover kit and new bushings will go on B4 these wheels.
I bid low to "test the waters" on them, seeing as I got my current set off e-bay for $600. The tires alone cost over $1000 on Tire Rack, and still had the mold nubs on the tread surfaces. A SWAG deal (stolen without a gun). |

Nice! They make the brakes really stand out too. Thanks Ti!
Btw, what are the wheel widths and offsets for those? Are they an E53 fitment? |
Quote:
Front are 10" and +50mm offset, rears are 11.5" and +28mm offset. The current wheels on my X are E53 fitment, 8.5f and 9.5r 19s. Don't recall the offset but had to install 25mm spacers to get the rears out where I want them. |
Ah. I think your current wheels are M3 spec, I see a lot of that size (8.5/9.5) on M3 and the E46 guys. Our trucks run 9" front/10" rear wheela for the sport package. Thanks for the info!
Good luck with the bid, post pics when you get them on please! :) |
Quote:
You're probably right with the E46/M wheel info. I have to swap those wheels in the pic for the OE when I load the X and tow at the same time. The wheels are load rated 680kg each, but a rear wheel with full tread tire mounted tips the scale at under 50 lbs. |

WOW! I know a guy selling these in the UK for £1600 WITH nearly new quality branded tires, and he had them refurbed before sale.
Ive seen these and they are definitely one of the best wheels for the E53 |
i was reading that weight was an issue with those Alpina wheels. how much do they weigh? and what reccomendations/opinions are there for a light weight 20" wheel? cuz 20' is the direction im headed. i think the size looks great on an e53

^Post #16 on page 2. Also listed in the eBay ads.
http://www.xoutpost.com/970812-post16.html Go with stock style87, style168 or style177. They are 27.5/31.5 lbs Front/Rear. My HRE 648R save about 1.5-2lbs ea. |

One of the nice things about these wheels is that with the added width and lower offset, it negates the need for spacers on the rear for those of you with rear flares. In my case, my wheels are 20x10 front and 20x11 rear and they come just to the edge of the fender. Either way, when you get up to wheels that are 11+ inches wide, that .5" makes little difference....they still look like a steam roller. :) |
Bridgestone Duelers run wide in their size. ;)

If these were brand new/unused and in original boxes, I would STILL not pay his "buy now" price. 325/30/21s would really fill the wheelwells of the E53. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....tnum=23YR1PSC2 |
These have been on e-bay for over 2 mos and still not sold. Seller must think reconditioned wheels bring new wheel prices. :dunno:

They're only rare bc they're expensive. They're still available in the US through the Alpina Disty, KSK. The set of 4 is $5,600. Tires are about $700 each. They're not terribly heavy for 21's. These wheels are for my E53 like AC Schitzers were for my E39. When I saw that E39 in 1996 with Type II's, I knew I had to have them. Took me 4 years to get the car, another 4 to get the StopTechs, and then until 2006 to actually get the ACS Type IIs, but I did. And I love 'em. I saw those Alpina's about 10 years ago and knew I had to have a 4.8is to put 'em on. THAT only took 7 years! LOL. And now. We wait. These things are like new tile roof on the house kinda money. I am a patient man. Besides. You can't have wheels like this without some cool brakes to show off. ;pimp; Right? I mean. Right? LOL. BTW, this guy wouldn't take nearly $3k for his 'rare' wheels. He instead wanted to sell them via Paypal outside of EBAY. This is a red flag. Don't get screwed. |
I too find the wheels very nice actually. I'd love a set of alpina's for my 8
|
Don't you find it a little too bling bling? They do look good I must admit but at first glance, it screams "pimp my ride"???? No?
|
Quote:
These need pizza size rotors with StopTech or Brembo calipers to look right. OE size brakes and it's "Pimp my Rideish". IMHO, wheels in need of refinishing are worth more then refurbished wheels. The structural integrity/balance/trueness could be an issue if the wheels were abused, the refurbishing/repair has HIDDEN all the abuse. New, glossy paint on used wheels reduces value for me. |
WOW. I think I just got aroused.

Classic BMW has a Z8 with these wheels, they look better in person.
I offered the seller 1/2 asking price almost 2 yrs ago, was not accepted. |

I have also seen these in person and they never really struck me as beautiful but if you were to get them at half of the listed price for authentic Alpina wheels then perhaps more consideration could be given to them. If you like them then you should go for them. I love wheels but they have to be drop dead gorgeous for me move on them. |
I think they are perfect fit for the first Face Gen E53 1999-2003 with 4.8 body kit
