There are several threads about transmission issues. One that might be worthwhile to read follows: http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...s-summary.html As mentioned, updated software may resolve the issue but I would not spend any $$ on a possible fix until you have a well recommended transmission specialist who is familiar with BMW transmissions complete a diagnosis.

Mgmarsh, I see you have a 4.6. FYI- the torque convertor in your X is not the same as used in the other models. Also, one thing I have done that you might consider is adding Dinan transmission software. It not only changes the transmission shift points but in the manual mode the shifts are faster, firmer and you have more control when the shift takes place.

bcredliner, is this the Dinan software you're talking about?

Performance Automatic Transmission Software - Dinan, Leader in BMW Performance Parts and Upgrades

for $300 bones it may not be a bad idea. If I do install this, do I need to warn the shop every time I take it in?

Yes, that's the ticket.

They won't ship the software to you last I knew. You need to have it installed by an authorized Dinan shop. Some BMW dealers are authorized as are some BMW indy shops.

I just picked up the 4.6 today from the dealer and they found no faults or anything wrong with my trans. The tech and my service guy both test drove it and said it drove fine. I asked about the software update and the Dinan tune and got a blank stare from my service guy... The parts dept has Dinan stuff posted on the walls so I assume they can do it.

They didn't charge me for this at least since I just spent 2600 bucks on my cooling system. On my drive back to work it seemed to drive normally with no hesitation. Maybe I just need to change my driving habits and be a bit more agressive :).

Aggressive has worked for me. Some people wave at me that I don't even know.

They just give me the finger.

bcredliner 01-10-2014 06:20 PM

It is a one finger wave, is that bad?
