My MID went kaput

I've bought another MID for my upgrade to DSP project and the only difference between the one installed is it has DSP; neither have BC. Today I tried to plug it up just to check the pixels and it wouldn't light up at all. The radio kept playing. When I installed my original MID, nothing. I checked all the fuses.

What did I just do? Is there some type of anti-theft feature preventing my MID from working?

The MID has to be the same as the system that's installed. There is no anti-theft code...that went the way of the Dodo bird (radio changed at the e38/e39/e46 generation). Do you have the DSP amp already installed as well as the DSP coax cable? If not, the DSP MID is looking for that info to communicate with the amp and possibly the radio unit (which is incorporated into the indash CD player or Cassette player (not sure which one you have).

No DSP amp installed just the factory "hi-fi" system. I attempted to purchase a LEAR DSP amp but I was sent the wrong amp and the seller couldn't locate the correct unit so I had to return it for a refund. I recently purchased this MID for only $80 and is in really good shape and I simply wanted to see some pixels as I know it would need to be coded in order for it to work. I have the door speakers and the sub so basically I need a good amp and a wiring loom or the connector heads. When I do the full install I'll have the dealer do the coding.

The more I think about it perhaps I don't have the connector down deep enough. It really tricky trying to both push in and pull up the bracket at the same time. Since I get off work early tomorrow and have plenty of sunlight I'll try to reconnect the input wires.

The connector was in fact not down far in enough to make contact. The swinging retaining clip needs to be pushed a bit further downward before the connector goes in. And I overlooked it on both units. The DSP version MID does work as plug and play radio. However the DSP button doesn't show any options as it obviously needs the amp and coding.
