Sorry for the new thread that is basically an extension of a private msg but I can't get xoutpost to "accept" my username to post pictures.. So I use Tapatalk app and for some reason it wouldn't allow me to post without the "set" / "accept" thing in a private msg either.. ANYWAY.. Carrying on..

No no.. Was just talking about the backing plate at the assembly I'm guessing the one you mentioned you had to buy the whole motor and shabang for around 120 I believe you said... just for your backing plates... For some reason I can't "set" my username to post pics here I'll start a thread..

So 42 bucks for a plastic disk and 6 weeks later from Germany I do this..

Looks like it just pulls on and off with pressure , but I didn't expect a plastic ball pivot held on with most brittle plastic known to mankind..
Old PartAttachment 61959you can see it's missing the "tabs" to attach a mirror to.. I finally decided to fix it "right" no more glue!
And THEN I try to pull it off and PLINK! F&@$!! Attachment 61960Attachment 61961Attachment 61962Attachment 61963

So anyway I remember you saying you bout the motor and all just for the backing plate since it's sold as a bundle.. Do you still have the rest of the innards for the passenger side? If not any idea of part #?

Sorry bout that "skid plate" buddy, IMO it was kinda a piece of junk anyway ;p

Nope I junked it 2 years ago, didn't think I'd need it lol.

Have you tried popping the "ball" off your existing mounting plate and transferring it over to the new plate? I can't tell from your pictures whether it pulled off as one clean piece or not.

How did u get just the backing plate from Germany? Junk yard? I'd look up the part number on realoem, maybe the plate is sold separate after all, but obviously you need the motor repair kit I sent you on pm.

I just played with my mirrors over the last few weeks and noticed my "ball" had broken off too when I pulled my plate off. I took my motor out to clean the "reverse drop feature" mother board and at the same time I glued the "ball" back onto the broken housing it came from. Anyhow, I noticed the ball is not that necessary as the 4 posts actually give the plate direction and stability, not the "ball". I did manage to epoxy the ball back to its original position and when dry, I sanded the diameter of it down a bit and also widened the diameter of the receptacle on the mirror backing plate so it slipped in easier, then still lubed both parts before putting back on.
Again, I'm thinking its not even necessary, but since I had the parts, adn epoxy, why not make it work.
No issues since I repaired it, adn the reverse feature.
Now... just to figure out the folding mirror issue. Its not the limit switches or motors... DIY to follow.
