Webasto auxiliary heater parasitic drain!

Hi,

For the last few months my car as developed an intermittent battery drain, that kill my battery completely if parked for 24 hours or more.
In the meantime my heater stopped working, so I thought it was the usual suspect, Final Stage Resistor. It was replaced, heater and AC now working perfectly BUT the drain still exactly the same.
After almost one week at the mechanic trying to find the issue, he finally found it, with 100% certitude that it's the Webasto auxiliary park heater.
As all the diesel models my car as that installation but since I bought it didn't have the original radio/nav system so it never worked and will never work in the future.
My question is, what is the best and easiest way to disconnect the Webasto without interfering with anything else in the car? I don't know if it is related with the normal heater and AC system, but it doesn't make sense to buy a new very expensive part or second hand or even try to repair mine, a part that as no use.
Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions.

Hi,
Just disconnect both plugs on the actual Webasto heater and you will have no problems. Its a common issue ,related to battery drain and eventhough mine never gave me any problems ,I have it disconnected as I never use it:)

Hi Powers1,

Thanks for your help.
In fact my mechanic had done exactly that and leave the car over the weekend and also yesterday, and today it started on first crank!
So problem solved, no webasto which is not a problem since I had/will never used it.
The real problem was leaving the car for 24 hours and found it completely dead, everything is perfect now.... until next problem lol!

Thanks again.

superb gonna give this a go too and unplug although my heater still works, but for those that have unlugged the webasto have you seen a drop in mpg since having it disconnected? I have the manual for the thermotop and it also aids the enigne coolant temp thus keeping diesels as efficient as they are.....to be frank I am gonna disconnect this, already pulled the fuse for the phone and nav although dont have them in the car.....i either have a crappy battery or drain or both....all will be revealed all i know is that my oem last 9 years!

Hi Omodos,
Glad you found this thread and hope your problem is the same, but I like I said in your thread, you need to do a step at a time ;)
No difference at all in mpg if you disconnect the Webasto!
