Documenting maintenance
I know that many of us do our own maintenance. It is one of the first thing that's brought up when a prospective buying in inquiring about the purchase of a high end vehicle.
But how do you guys document the maintenance that you have completed yourself? |
I know their is programs out there that do this for ya and also you can scan of all the receipts and upload them to this program .I can`t think of what its called I`ll do some searching later on.
|
I save all the receipts in a folder, the receipts have dates which gives an estimated date that it was performed. I usually write the mileage on the receipt.
|
All work is documented, whether done by the dealer or myself.
My log is a simple Excel spreadsheet, with columns for date, mileage, cost, and what was done. In a paper file folder for each vehicle I have the original purchase documents, all repair orders, and parts sales orders for any parts purchased and installed by me. Some prospective purchasers have looked at the file and been very interested. It helped complete the sale. Others looked at it and couldn't care less, but I do it for myself, not for them. The history files cover every car I have purchased from 1986 (the occasion of the purchase of my first new vehicle after ten years of only owning used vehicles) |
heres 1 program to get an idea of what software is out there for keeping track of maintenance on vehicles Vehicle Maintenance Software - A Computerized Vehicle Log Book.
