What is this part

Hi all, I need to know what this part is? I have an oil leak and think it could be caused by this part. I have an 01 bmw x5 4.4 and any advice will be appreciated.

Flux Capacitor??? Wait that was in the DeLorean. Looks like an EGR Valve.
