CCV's DONE...
Thank you to whoever it was that suggested this fix.
Took a total of 20 minutes to replace both. I instantly noticed a smoother idle, when accelerating I can actually see out my back window again, no more giant cloud of white smoke and when sitting at a light it's so smooth I had to look at the tach to make sure it was running. With the parts being as cheap as they are I'm stoked to have solved these issues so cheap. The old CCV's had the milky crud clogging them up, not too bad though, but enough to plug every hole in the rubber portion of the CCV. Hot oil change comes tomorrow to try to clear anything else out. I'm freaking excited, no more feeling like the person behind me is screaming HOOPTY when I take off from a light. Now let's see how she idles on a cold start in the morning, that will be the true test. |
Good news ...I'll be doing mine next week.

Can you elaborate it a little bit more? How can you replace the CCV & hoses in 20 minutes? Or you were just referring to my approach, which is a good "suck"? :D

CCV on an N62 are different than on an inline 6.
|
The CCV's on an N62 simply snap in to the top of each valve cover.
You basically remove the three engine covers, lightly pry each of 6 tabs on each side up, pull the cover off, remove the rubber piece, remove the spring, insert new spring, insert new rubber piece and snap the cap back on. 20 minutes tops. It's nothing like the oil separator on an inline 6. |
Us 3.0 guys get shafted right up the rear as far as replacing it goes. One thing you V8 guys have thats easier than ours is the CCV.
I'm currently rounding up my cold weather parts and updated dipstick tube to complete this repair, going to do a preventative rebuild of the DISA and replace my lower intake elbow as well when I do the job. Will hopefully post a writeup when I complete all. |
The M62 in pre-facelift V8 has the CCV at the back of the intake manifold. A couple of the torx screws are very hard to get to. It's still easier than the CCV on those M54.

The CCV (or at least changing the the black cap with the orange diaphragm) on the M62/M62TU can be done quicker/easier without removing the whole unit at the back of the engine.
Edwin has a great video on youtube showing how. Click link below to see how: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kKNeN8tR3wM |
