Weird, Weird and more Weird "warning lights"
So this morning I get in the X to drive the little one to school. I pull out of the driveway and the "Brake" light on the dash illuminates amber. I pull in to the school and while sitting at idle the "trans failsafe prog" warning comes on. I shut off and restart the car a few times and the issue stays.
Walk her in to school, come out, start the car and the trans failsafe and brake lights are still on, I pull off and drive about 50', both warnings turned off and the car has driven perfectly fine since. I have read a faulty brake switch can cause this, the one that is tripped by the brake pedal. No fault codes stored either. |
Check your voltage? faulty alternator can cause some of these problems
|
Voltage is fine, I replaced the alternator about a month ago. Battery was also replaced. That was the first thing I tested when this happened, pulled up the voltage on the OBC.

Blame it on the Polar Vortex, have lights coming on my X ever since we got hit with this Polar Vortex. Us my scanners to read the DTC and clear them and some new one will pop up later.
|
I've been blaming everything on the polar vortex already.
Just figured I'd ask. ha ha. BTW, where in Illinois are you? I need someone with INPA to help me calibrate my suspension. My buddy had it, but his lap top took a crap. I'll buy beer, or pizza or whatever. |

Don't have Inpa, I have Carsoft 6.5, BMW Scanner 1.4 and Torque. |
ah, damn. I thought I read a post where you had the other software.
|
if you had trans failsafe, there must be a code stored in EGS... did you read that module? i think something was not "plausible", as BMW likes to say... one of the sensors "fell offline"... could be a fluke, due to vortex, could be something else...
what did you use to pull the codes? |
Used an OBD scanner with a trans scanner feature. No codes showed for engine or trans when scanned. Hoping my buddy gets his lap top fixed so I can head to his house this weekend to calibrate my suspension and give a full scan with actual diagnostic software.
