What have you found in your E53 lately?
Ok, this could get interesting. I'm curious to hear what others may have found in their E53's while working on them or after a visit to their dealer or Indy for service. While removing the back seat of my E53 to get at the fuel pump, I found this:
http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/02/04/4ytu4upe.jpg The part number on the back is 6113 8366180, which according to Realoem, is for an E38! Wonder how it got under my seat... Didn't happen at the plant, I'm sure! Let's hear what others have found! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
About 5-6 pairs of shoes that my wife left in it, everytime I drive it. :D
|
When I pulled my center consol I found, golf tees, lottery tickets, a bank receipt with a balance of a little over 3 grand, tee off pencils (or whatever they are called), and more golf tees. I even found more golf tees in the spare tire area.

A bag of cocaine... Just kidding :)
I keep mine pretty clean. So nothing really. |
The first time I was detailing the X5 I found a lacy black G-string under the rear passenger seat floor mat :wow:
I grabbed some latex gloves, made sure my girl was no where in the area and proceeded to bury said panties as deep in the dumpster as possible. It may have been a bit overboard but I never want to have to answer the question who's panties are these? When my girl is the one asking ;) |

when I first got my x back in the summer 1 front plastic tow hook cover for the front bumper at the left rear pannel where you can add a cd changer . (found it 2 weeks after orderring a new one, oh well got a spare).

I know every single thing in mine, which isn't much.
My OCD doesn't allow papers in cup holders, garbage in door pockets or trunk area do my contributions to this thread aren't much lol. And unlike Tam my wife can't drive my E53 as she is yet to learn to drive stick so she isn't able to leave shoes and shopping goodies in it lol! |
you won`t find much in my x5 either other than sand right now because of the winter, but once the nice weather is back I`ll be taking a fine detailing brush and getting into all the little crevises , i`ll spend a good 4hrs just inside the x detailing it. and yes my wife says I have ocd issues lol

Dead hooker in trunk.
Just kidding NSA analysts. :-P Just a bunch of error codes. They're like cockroaches. Clear them and there are always more that pop up ! |
Mine came with the funny cup holder insert that looks vaguely like it should be x-rated. It floats about the car as I tend to move it whenever I am vacuuming/cleaning inside. I had not seen it for several months but this morning it turned up in the driver's doorpocket :-)
When I got it the addressbook had a bunch of indian restaurants in it..... Other than that nothing much worth reporting. |
shoes... earrings... ladies' underwear... one time there was a bra on the back seat and friend of mine said that whoever it belonged to had bigger boobies than her... and for the life of me, i could not even remotely remember, who would lose a bra in the car - i always make sure i fasten them back after i am done playing with the content!!!!
on the other hand, i did find a strange rubber band (two of them!) that fell off when I popped the trim on the top hatch - the bands were in beige color, circular with a little "arrow"... It looked like a symbol for male, or Mars or Volvo - no part number on it, nothing... it could be used to secure cables but on the other hand, it might not even be part of BMW parts at all... I will need to dig them from the garage and take a picture of them... |
A live mouse in the subframe when doing an oil change...
|
I just found the two floor hold down bands, broken jack holder, broken center floor support hat, a card from a Sun City, Az retirement home and the missing right backup light bulb holder I was about to order.

What we find in our vehicles.....
When I got my X5, I put her in the garage detailing one area at a time, cleaning deeper each time. It took approx 2 weeks of night time/ weekend efforts to clean her to my standards. The only non OE parts were the following:
Barbie doll accessories- shoes, dress, purse, etc (no, you sick individuals real dolly stuff not "hot barbie" XXX stuff). All of these items were stuffed in the front seat backs map pockets. Somewhere is a Doll without her stuff. M&Ms- all melted in the bottom of center console. House Paint- on the roll out floor where it appears someone forgot to seal a can of paint then went for a ride. Some one attemped to wipe it up when it happened. My efforts took a while to clean those marks up. In one of my older purchases (car long gone) I found "weed" everywhere. Ashtrays, under the seats, back seat, trunk, etc. It took me weeks to find the wheel lock key dropped in between the passenger seat tracks..... "Oh, that is why that seat would not move forward". NOTHING is in the X5 today as I am a member of the super clean is SOP - (Standard Operating Proceedure). No dust, dirt, and never stuff in the door pockets. Weekly hand washing, wax monthly, vacume 1- 3 x a week. Takes only a few minutes when everything is spotless. Rotate the summer/winter mats to ensure all is good. We should start a thread on what is the weirdest thing found in a car. My contribution would be the 300# boulder in the trunk of a car that came in for an alignment. Rearend on the ground, headlights aimed at the tree tops. EVERYTHING in the TRUNK was crushed, sheet metal, seat backs, shelf package, plastic parts, taillights, etc. Just dont ask why? You do not want to know. The give away was the HUGH bulge in both rear fenders that were from the inside out. Or maybe the 600 gallons of river water in a car that was towed in after the college student drove off the Parkway in to the Potomac one night. Three days later it was dropped off by the tow service onto our lot with a note. "Needs Service". The water was up to the door tops INSIDE the car. :yikes: Then there was the truck load of new cars that came in with their roofs crushed to the seat headrests..... Or the day they dragged in 6 cop cars that were wrecked in a police chase in the snow. That was a great day for the body shop. One we had to look at the VIN to determine it was a FOUR DOOR at one time. :wow: |
Salt, lots of salt on the monster mats. Other than that nothing.
When I first got it and I was replacing the battery I found a ton of small springs that looked like they were from ball point pens in the battery well. Strange. |
Around a week later after I got my X I decided to removed the back seat and found the following: Crayons, Juice Straws, Cookie Crumbs, 2 Old license Plates, Toys, Peanut M&Ms, and a bunch of other garbage, and under the front seats I found 2 ''air fresheners" that smelled like they belonged in a restroom. Last owner must of had lots of kids and was a smoker. Last year before the cold weather came I stripped the inside removed and cleaned all seats, floor trims ect. steamed cleaned and shampooed the carpet and anything else I was able to shampoo. Now my X smells like a brand new car + the smell of Griots leather care.

I found the mechanical fan laying against the radiator after the alternator had been replaced...
2002 X5 3.0 247,925 miles 2004 325i 110,000 miles |
Fist time I took the engine cover off, I found a pair of nice snapon green pliers. A little clean up, and good as new.
|
Lately.. not much, no error codes Thank God! haha
But when I first got Max I was cleaning the trunk right panel where the sub enclosure goes and I found a receipt for an adult store. It was kind of a long list too lol! What I thought was interesting is that the previous, original, owner had bought the x for her daughter (who I went to school with ;)) |

these two fell out the trunk trim... not the best picture, but they should be normal, round rubber bands...
can't figure out if they are OE or just got there somehow... the trunk trim was "virgin" when i opened it... or, so i think... |
I believe those bands are used to wrap portions of the wiring harness before installation in the vehicle. I'll check on that and get back to you.

Dead Bird in the lower left (Driver's side) front corner of the engine compartment.. Sucked in through the lower center intake, and trapped? I dunno, still haven't been able to reach it to release its remains yet (yuck)..

I didn't find anything but yesterday , I dropped a small jeweler screwdriver in the engine bay near the expansion tank. Never found it after a few hours searching with magnet.
So hopefully I can come back soon and tell you I found a screwdriver in the engine bay  |
maybe its in the bottom cover under the engine ,first time I put windsheild washer in I popped the washer cap off the resovoir and fell out of my hand into that location , but I was able to pop 1 of the caps on the cover off and bam there it was and was able to grab it with my fingers . yah
