m54 dies when it drops below 1k.
This is a MT if it matters - Just driving back from grabbing lunch and I pull up to a stop light press the clutch in and the car dies. No stumbling or anything it just felt like it was turned off. as long as I keep it over 1200rpm or so it is okay but if it drop below 1k it dies. Sometimes a feather of the pedal brings it back to life others not. Once it dies it fires right back up like normal and then a second later if the accelerator isn't depressed it dies. No check engine light or other indicators and all the gauges were reading good.
I'm at work 30min from home so I'm really hoping I can make it home! I filled up with gas Tuesday morning and have driven about 80 miles since then. Any ideas?? Hopefully this little fluke is just gone when I get back in. |
Any codes or pending codes? If I had to guess I would say check the rubber boot at the throttle body and ICV.

No engine light at all so I am assuming no codes. For a vacuum leak bad enough to stall out an m54 I would really expect there to be a code. Also it is odd that it just happened of the sudden.

crankshaft or camshaft position sensor? do those ever go out on these?. . without dropping a cel

Is your lower intake elbow ripped? The cold weather could have made it worse and made it tear in that little Y portion that connects to the ICV.
|
I agree with Ricky Bobby.
Check that rubber boot and also the ICV. I didnt get any error messages when my ICV was barely holding on to a tiny piece and wouldnt open but I definitely got the super low idle like you. |
Okay I'll check both of those things.

Popped the hood and started inspecting the upper and lower boots by the throttle body. Then I look up to the maf and that downcomer pipe was totally disconnected from it. SLid it back in and voila problem solved!! love fixes like that.
