Rear window wont go up
I started the x5 and the rear passager side window went down and wont come up. Is it the motor or the regulator or both?
Thanks |
Most likely the regulator.

better yet, most likely the $2 plastic part... there is only one on the back but once it breaks, the glass is down... do not roll the window motor, it will tangle the cables and break the plastic pulleys. get the part from the dealer (51357011680), and have it fixed... check the DIY here at the HOW TO section

I agree with Terminator x5 .. The plastic clip can be the culprit (I just recently experienced)
My door got fixed together with the dreaded door carrier issue... I heard it can happen too in summer time. It's one of the many ticking time bombs :) One more symptom when the window is 50% or 100% down, when you close the door, You will hear some rattling of some sort. |
Regulator clips, replace all 8 and your window troubles should be minimized. 2 per door.

maybe not...:dunno: |
Oh you could be right for all I know, I bought 8 of them to have on my shelf in case my windows ever start making "funny noises" haha!
Cheap insurance for the windows in my opinion, I just figured if the front windows took 2 they all would so I bought 8 lll |

Ok, got the rear door panel off (PITA) and hooked a battery to the motor and the window when up. It seems that the problem is electrical and not mechanical. All of the other windows work fine but this one. Do they have separate fuses? Where are the fuses for the windows located?
Thanks |
you can check the fuses F14 and F60 - they are not directly wired to the window switches, they feed the GM, supposedly for the rear window functions...
swap the windows switch - what if the switch is malfunctioning? |
Check the wiring harness, including the flexible loom at the door jamb.

what is happening now? what is status of your situation? |
If you have ruled out the motor, switch, and regulator as causes, then consider that it might be a bad relay in the GM (general module). In my (and a number of other people's) experience, the rear windows would intermittently fail. Check out this link for a discussion. Also see posts #27 and 28 in this link for discussion and solution.
Hope that helps. |
It is the relay on the GM3 module. Had the same thing happen to me on my 2005 X5. See the site BMW General Module 5 (GMV, ZKE V) for info. He also sells the relays.
