Awesome ride Jono.
I love the interior:). Almost matches mine. I opted to wrap my trim so that's the only difference. Looks great! I can't speak for everyone, but sorry your thread was demolished. Maybe you could start a new one and maybe the mods could ditch this one and maybe next time people want to express something OT in a newbies welcome thread they could use the pm feature:) |
Wow, this is the first one of these I have seen here. I guess a forum is a forum no matter what and eventually these things happen.
Sorry OP, I hope you enjoy your X and all is well for you. |

What you describe is your way of the world, is in no way universal to your location than it is in the rest of the world. An apology does not indicate humility. It is evidence of character. I apologized for how I wrote my post not the message. It was your opportunity to admit you were out of line and save face. I was pretty sure what you would do. Either way this crap would end soon. |

Wow! haha that guy totally does not belong on here. I've only been a member for a little bit but I've lurked around for quite some time and everyone on here seems to be pretty cool like Helihover said. Anywho, Jono once you get your manifold taken care of and your x running good you should take a little video/soundclip for us all to hear that lovely diesel engine. |

Interesting that you bought your manifold in UK!Was it still "cost effective" after taking into consideration the cost of shipping to Aussie?I have heard from other aussie members that parts there are very expensive! Btw,very good installation tips on the manifold.Thats exactly how we remove it here at the dealer .cheers for sharing:thumbup: Lets hope Jon ,the OP gets back to us once he finds his manifold. |
Hi Powers1 , yes the original BMW stainless exhaust manifold from the dealer was around the aus $1400 .The cast unit from the UK cost me aus $350 plus another $90 for freight and it arrived the same week. There is a company selling the cast units here in Aus but it looks the exact same manifold as the unit I purchased from the UK ,from memory they were selling them for around the $800 mark.If I am after anything worth a few $$ and I am not in a hurry for it I generally purchase it from OS, it works out a lot cheaper even with the freight.
The manifold changeout would have been a lot easier if I had a hoist ,I drove the car onto some 150mm blocks to get it that little bit higher, wasnt a bad job to do.I replaced the turbo at the same time as it was showing some seal leakage indicated by oil weeping out from the intercooler piping. |
Thats a good deal and well worth it!Unfortunately the X5 E53 facelift has upgrades that didnt work out to well for BMW,like the turbo ,injectors and the stupid decision to change the manifold from cast to stainless steel! All common problems and quite a lot under warranty and I can vouch for that ,as we replaced quite a few here.
ALL M57 engines share same cast manifold,be it on E38,E39,E46,E53.This manifold is also compatible with ALL M57TU which came out with stainless. So the best place to get one is a scrap yard and I wouldnt be surprised if thats where those on Ebay are sourced;). Congrats on doing the job without a hoist !I have one ,in my garage and I tend not lift the X5 all the way up,because its a frightening sight ..all that weight on top of me...:( Lets not spam JONs thread anymore :D and look forward to his positive reply All the best Fernando:thumbup: |
