Right/Rear caliper removal and Handbrake Adjustment
So today I removed the right/rear wheel and then proceeded to remove the caliper so i could then get to the hub as I need to adjust my handbrake for the MOT. Well after going through my odds and sods pile of bits I realised that the brake caliper key must have been in my chest which was stolen.
I drove a 45 minute round trip to halfords to get a new one to only find out that because its got such a big handle it doesn't fit because the suspension leg is in the way. I am a patient man but by this point I was pretty p****d off. Tomorrow morning I am going to go and get a 7mm Hex socket which will hopefully fit. Any other advise on this would be appreciated. Can the handbrake be adjusted any where else? Thanks |
The handbrake adjustment starwheel is accessed thru a wheel lug bolt hole, removal of the wheel/caliper/rotor is not necessary.

Hi. Thanks for the reply. I did read that but I couldn't find it unfortunately. I tried to shine a light and also had a feel around with a screwdriver but to no avail. :-(

It's tricky to find. Bentley manual states 5 o'clock for left and 7 o'clock for right but they got it backwards.
|
Ah ok. At least I know roughly where to look now. I will have another look tomorrow. So to confirm for my right rear it would be 5 o'clock?
|
Am I right in thinking it's only the right rear aswell. Theres no adjuster on the left?
|
Correct. I actually pulled a disc to see, that's when I realized the Bentley error.
You have an adjuster on both sides. |
So both sides need adjustment or just one does both kind of thing?
I have been needing to get around to this as well... You just stick a 7mm and tighten it up or? |
The adjustment is done with a long, flat blade screwdriver.

I just bumped the "Handbrake adjustment at rear wheels" thread.
