Just Bought an X5
 

Her name is Xexilia. I bought it yesterday from a nice guy in Iowa. Drove 6hrs there, 6hrs back! Long day. But you could not have asked the truck to have performed better. I got it through the wash last night but still need to take my own photos. Forsale photos for now:

Items needing attention:
bad key fob
bad drivers lock cylinder (Currently locked out of the car!)
broken hood catch release
janked rear passenger window
No heated seats
rear hatch upper switch shorted/disconnected.
Detailing!

It will be a nice clean truck once its all sorted. I will be sure to update with my photos as I go. Trying to unlock the car right now if anyone has good advice on the "free spin" lock cylinder issue with a dead key fob. Its cheaper for me to replace a window than call a smith.

None of the glass is cheap. Some service such as AAA can open the door just enough to use a pole/rod to hit the unlock switch and pop the doors open.

You may be able to get a mobile windshield installer to remove the windshield so you can open the doors. He can reinstall the windshield afterward.

I looked into it a bit. new passenger window on ebay is 90.00 shipped, Local locksmith wanted 90+tax to just try and pop it. Still investigating my resources right now.

Congrats! Can't help you on the key fob issue or electrical gremlins, but window regulator issues are common and a DIY fix. The skins needed a good leatherique job once you have some warm weather. Purely a matter of taste, and I know you are in deer hunter country, but, IMHO, the camo steering wheel and seat covers have got to go - just not a BMW fashion item, sorry! :). If the steering wheel is funky, a sew-on wheelskin leather is a good way to go. Glad to see you have three pedals and a real stick; make sure you join Ricky Bobby's MT registry and consider a CDV delete and UUC SSK to make that one fine-shifting SAV! Search the forum using those terms and you'll know what I mean ....

If the battery in the key fob is dead, you can split the plastic key fob open and try installing a new battery so that you can at least get the doors open without breaking a glass. Or if the previous got the fob coded for auto windows, you can hold on to the unlock button and see if the windows will roll down.

If the battery in the x is dead you can connect a charger to the starter and chassis and see if you can charge the battery up enough to open the door. The other option is if you can open the hood there's a charging port on the firewall and driver side fender (Ground).

I work in Chevrolet Sales. I am now in possession of a professional lockout kit. Same kit the locksmith would use so heres hoping! I will try and get her open tonight. Seat and wheel covers stayed with the PO. I told him to keep all his personal effects! Wish me luck!

I also checked the key fob, battery is good and it just needs to be sync'd. Crappy part is I tried this last night before locking the truck but had the buttons in reverse! just my luck. Again, hopefully this is a no brainer. My automotive lock pick skills don't go much beyond a Honda and coat hanger.

This happened to me also, if you're standing outside facing the drivers door, the locksmith will place two little square shaped inflatable bags in the top right corner of the door. He inflated the bags, each bag has a small squeeze bulb, to push the door frame out just enough so he could reach inside with a long aluminum (bendable) rod and press the central locking button. Sounds like it may be your GM (General Module), it's a white electronics box located behind glove box, you have to remove the glove box. It looks like a white video cassette tape, again just like the key cylinder it's an oh so common failure item. It controls the dome lights, wiper, central locking and of course the remote lock and unlocking. It's amazing how something with no moving parts inside can fail so often. so now you have an idea of what's in store for you down the road...lol! Do a search for GM module and you will find a thread about how to find and remove it, it's really simple. Then you can send it to this guy to have it repaired, he can also repair your key if it's broken also. Yes the remote keys fail quite often also, so you could have bad key also, he repaired mine and then I went to the dealer and bought a new one, now I have two working keys, click on the link below.

Leather needs a good deep clean and the conditioning to protect. I recommend the Leather Master Plus kit from Phil @ detailers domain based on pics of your seat.
