X6 Wheel on E53
 
Has anyone some photos or experience with fitting X6 20x10, 20x11 sports wheels from a X6 onto a E53.It looks as if the rear hub sizes are the same but the front will require rings due to the different machined hub size.I am not sure of the style number of these rims.The offset also appears to be the same.I have read a past post where someone has fitted the 21" wheels so I expect the offset etc from the 20" to the 21" would be the same.Just looking for something different.

I am looking to transfer my sport 19" style 258's from my 2009 X6 to my 2001 X5 and wondering the same regarding fitment.

You need to verify that the center hubs are the same diameter. If the X5 hub is smaller in diameter you will need to buy hub centric rings, if the X5 hub is larger in diameter you will need to have the wheels center hub bore out.

Mine are 20x10F & 20x11 rear. They sit more or less flush with the fenders without the need for any spacers. You will need hub rings though (how many depends on a couple factors such as style # and whether or not they're reps or the real McCoy)

Also, regarding the 21" wheels, you may need flares from the 4.8is as the tires that you'd normally wrap them suckers in is a 325.

im asking because the oem offerings for the cars look a hell of a lot better than the truck offerings... is running an M5 wheel on my truck gonna be a problem? is weight an issue? because if not, i will modify the wheel and use the necessary spacers to make it sit right.... any knowledgeable input is more than welcome.

Skier1: X5SND will give you good advice since he has those wheels on his E53. You are correct about the hub-bored size and offset.
For the 21", the rears would be 21"x11.5" offset38. I think you can get by without the "iS" flares. But it would look better with.

BimmerBlueblood: I don't think weight is a problem. The hub-bored size, offset, width will pretty much determine if the wheel will fit assuming the bolt pattern is 5x120. Good thing is the E53 has the same hub-board as most bimmers (72.56mm) The E39 and E70/71 (fronts) have strange hub-bored at 74.1mm
Why would you want to put 18" wheel on the X5? Most of them already come with. If yours has 17" wheels, skip the 18" and go to 20".

Skier1: Here's probably the best example of how my wheels sit. Any wider and they start to stick out of the lower (tapered bit) of the bumper...necessitating the need for the flares. You'd definitely have to run he specs for the 21" wheels through the offset calculator, but you may also end up with some rubbing issues on the inside side wall agains the fender liner.

You don't say which M5 wheel...there's 5 generations of M5s...the e28/e34/e39/e60/F10. They all have basically the same wheel specs (bolt pattern & wheel offset range)...the exceptions are (as already mentioned) the e39 5 series has a larger wheel hub center bore of 74.1mm vs 72.56 mm for all the others...and now the new F10 5 series has a higher wheel offset range. This may be due to BMWs implementation of Xdrive/AWD models on just about all the sedan models now.

The problem you're going to have mounting the 1st 4 generation M5 sedan wheels on your X5 is the wheel offset range. The BMW sedans have a lower offset range vs the SAVs. But here comes the exceptions...since BMW started implementing xDrive on the last "E" bodied & new "F" body sedans...the wheels for those E body xDrive sedans and all the newer F bodied sedans now have a higher wheel offset range...so although you may not be able to use the F10 M5s wheels without modifying how they get mounted...you may be able to get by with an F10 xDrive model's wheels.

It pays to check the BMW part nbr and wheel specs when shopping for BMW oe wheels. Again, due to the latest wheel spec changes...wheel specs can be varied...not set in stone like they once were.

Yes they are genuine BMW wheels style 259. 20" not 21"
I have done some more research and it looks as if I will need the hub rings for the front due to the front hub on the X6 being 74mm and the X5 being 72.5mm. The rears should be ok as the hub sizes are both 72.5mm.
The existing front 168 style are 20 x 9 1/2 with a ET45 whereas the
X6 wheel style 259 are 20 x 10 with a ET40.
The existing rear 168 style are 20 x 10 1/2 with a ET30.
The X6 wheel style 259 is 20 x 11 with a ET37.

So I put all the numbers into a calculator I found on the internet and by it
The fronts will sit out a further 5mm and have the same inner clearance.
The rears outer clearance is the same but will sit in a further 7mm.

So hopefully all will be good without having to fit the outer flares.

X5SND I have found some more photos of your X5 and the wheel clearance on the outer fenders looks like what I am after . The offset of your style 300M wheel is the same for the front as the style 259 and a ET35 for the rear where the style 259 I am looking at has a ET37 which will make it almost identical .

Go with vossen cv3 I put the vossen cv3 on my x5 before I sold it .. That thing looks bad ass.
