New X tomorrow!

So....

Headed to BMW of Morristown tomorrow morning to pick up a 2014 X3 M Sport 35i. Feels so weird, but I'm excited. (it's not a chicks car... Right?)

Someone is coming to look at my beloved X5 this weekend also. Seems like an enthusiast, hope she goes to a good home!!

Anyway, here's a pic of the car I'm getting (not the exact one, but looks exactly the same). I got a killer deal on it too

And the X5

300 BHP, 296 lb-ft of torque. Apparently its faster than the 4.8is

4.4 does look great, which is why its so hard for me to part ways....

ukrcan 03-07-2014 11:53 AM

Nice car! Congrats on the purchase! How does the X3 handle comparing to an X5?

tmv 03-07-2014 11:55 AM

Congrats. I like the look of the X3. Much better than the 1st gen.
Not X3M. X3 M-Sport 35i.

the handling is superb on it, the lower center of gravity is really nice. I think what i will miss most is the growl of the V8 on my 4.4i. The turbos do sound pretty damn cool on the X3 though.

Also, i'm moving from owning, to leasing.... Not sure how i feel about it, but eff it. :stickpoke

Lets just say, my lease deal is $70 a month under what truecar.com considers is a "great deal"..

Most of the drivers that I see driving a X3 are usually females.

Gonna miss your E53 bro, for sure.

Hey tell the buyer of it to join us here on xoutpost

slowlanemcvane 03-07-2014 01:26 PM

Great looking car. I think the M-Sport sort of takes away the chickness of the car. Upallnight nailed it, most compact crossover drivers are female, but I think that the aggressiveness of the M-Sport kit makes it sort of gender-neutral.

Same thing I told myself when I owned a hatchback Focus SVT...a Focus is a girl's car. An SVT is a MAN'S car. LOL

luvmy03E53 03-07-2014 01:28 PM

I really think you'll love that F25! I've driven a few over the last couple of years, and have always thought they were a fun ride, especially the 35i's. Keep that thing in Sport mode, and you'll feel what I mean. The lower center of gravity helps it corner better than a stock E53, so find your favorite curvy road and let 'er fly...

ENJOY!!!

MINIz guy 03-07-2014 02:35 PM

Needs a Monster sticker and some A/T's to bro it out. Then it's no chick car.

Congrats, Naz!
Titz looking car, and in the shape you are in, if anyone gives you the chickcar deal, they are cruising for a bruising!

Naz24 03-07-2014 06:02 PM

Thanks for insight everyone....

It is going to be very difficult to sell my X5, but I guess its time, and i'll have to go through it at some point!

As far as the X3 M Sport being a woman's car, well the X3 is DEFINITELY a womans car, the M version, not so much. Add tints, performance black grilles, should be ok.

I still feel that bit of buyers remorse... i guess its normal for getting something new?

bcredliner 03-07-2014 06:18 PM

Good choice, looks great!

I don't think it is a chick car at all.

Buyer's remorse is normal when you are letting go of good memories and still like it. It usually doesn't last long unless what you sold is now a hot collector car or what you replaced it with sucks.

:iagree:

It's not a chick's car though... we promise. ha ha.

Ricky Bobby 03-07-2014 07:54 PM

I think with good tint it would look awesome.

In my opinion if you go with the black kidney grilles, powdercoat the wheels gloss black to keep the theme going, silver wheels might throw off the black grilles on a white car in my opinion. All about balance.

My old 08 GLI for comparison (perfect balance IMHO)

In downtown Chicago, Hot Professional Chicks ( mid 30s n 40s )= range rovers
Seasoned (50s) = Benz , 335 n 328 coupe n saloon = the newer generation

White cars definitely north for a chicks owned car ...

Peace!

Congrats Naz, I really like the look of the X3M! As far as looks go I think the more modern styling (not to mention the interior styling) makes your 4.4i look like a Commodore C64 computer, not even close!:bustingupAgain congrats, and nice job, let us know how the reliability is in a year.

Congrats!

Jungerishere 03-08-2014 11:05 AM

Nice ride. Congrats! But definitely chicks car. :nanana: My sister owns one and friend and co-worker owns one, all ladies. But then I see more ladies drive X5 than guys in my neighborhood.

ArmyX5 03-08-2014 03:01 PM

Naz,

Congrats on the new ride. I don't like any of the new designs of the X3 or X5, but I guest it will grow on you later. In my opinion, I would have put up a little more green $, and leased an X6. Even if it was the base, I would have felt a whole lot better. You are already spending lots of cash for a new car!

Naz24 03-08-2014 10:47 PM

So I got it today. Gotta tell you, this car is great. Really balanced, and with a few personal touches it'll be manly enough.

Stock performance
Your 4.8is ..0-60 is 6.1sec (top speed 153)
His F25 .... 0-60 is 5.7sec (top speed 152.2) not bad for chick car if you called it.:nanana:

Thats what I told him, tint, black kidney grilles, and gloss black powdercoated wheels, most excellent.

romeokc10 03-09-2014 01:08 PM

Wheels are fine as they are, black wheels are, soooooooooooo played out.

Car looks great! I think it looks the best in AW...and that new bmw car smell...
Waiting for the mods thread. Car has a lot of potential!

JCL 03-09-2014 03:26 PM

Congratulations on the new car! Looks good.

It is only a girl's car if a girl owns it. Check the mirror.

It also doesn't have turbos, it has a single turbo. They call it twin power to refer to twin scroll. I don't think that impacts the manliness of it though. ;)

Interesting. Single turbo.... Is the consistent with BMWs "35" engine line? Ie 435 m sport. How much different are they tuned? If at all

I wouldn't say there is a "35" engine line. 35 simply refers to a virtual displacement, upped from 3.0 litres due to turbocharging and marketing.

There have been multiple "35" gasoline engines, and multiple "35" diesel engines for that matter.

I had an N54 (which is an engine range) in my 2008 535. It had two small turbos. It was sold at 300 hp in North America, but there was widespread disbelief that that rating was real, as many reported pulling close to that power on chassis dynos. It was sold at 320 hp IIRC in the 335is and the 740 (there we go with virtual displacement again). It was sold at 330 hp IIRC in the 1M and the Z4.

In North America the N54 was superseded by the N55. It has one turbo that the marketing department dubbed Twin Power. It is or has been sold at 300 hp (X3, X5, most '35' models); 315 hp (M135, 35is models, 740); 320 hp (M235) and 340 hp (Z4 35is).

I could be a couple of hp out on any of these, as the ratings are different in different markets (NA vs others) and also Euro horses are smaller so the engine gets more rated hp in Europe. That is another way of saying the ancillary loads are calculated differently when they calculate the hp.

There are also performance upgrades available through the accessory parts system from BMW for various models, consisting of coding and sometimes more. They look like they move the engine up to the next bracket within the same range.

M Sport usually isn't a power designation, it is often an M look alike (body kit) with badges, and sometimes suspension tuning. The M135 and M235 models are exceptions. Not sure where it will go next.

ukrcan 03-09-2014 07:40 PM

I agree with JCL... from my understanding all "35i" cars are run by the same N55 engine, but i suspect their slight difference in hp is due to a different tune on each model...
look into Dinan or Cobb tuning - they should give you a 15% gain with a quick flash of the ECU...

I don't think we are agreeing on that, since the first 35i models used the N54. The N55 replaced the N54.

sorry what i meant, was that the difference in bhp between some of the new models running N55 exists due to different tune on the car...
