N62 timing cover removal problems. Grrrrr
Hit another snag. I am trying to remove the left front timing cover on my N62. I have all of the bolts out except for the one blocked by the alternator. I've read that one must remove the top bolt and loosen the bottom bolt to rotate the alternator out of the way slightly. I've done this but am only getting a little bit of clearance. It looks like the alternator is hitting some piping down below and these pipes are tightly in place with no movement in them.
Anyone have any tips? I am scratching my head..... http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/03/10/yjy8apu3.jpghttp://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/03/10/9unave4a.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Ive dont this, i dont quite remember what i ended up doing but it was either just move it out of the way like you are trying, but i think i just ended up removing the alternator itself anyway.
From your pic it does look like you have just enough room that you can stick the torx bit in there to loosen it. Or wait i possibly remover the top bracket part |
I got it!!!! After a couple hours and some guidance from an inspection camera I got it! .....of course I lost the socket time and time again. I found it a few times but who knows where it is now.

These sockets should work much better for getting in-between the alternator. I was using short sockets previously which kept popping off the extension I was using. I lost my E8.
$8.99 for the set at harborfreight. I love that store. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/03/10/sutaqyby.jpg Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Just remove the alternator, take the bolts out, rotate the alternator and pull it towards the radiator. It comes out pretty easily.
That will give you all the room you need. There is no room to move the alternator out of the way without pulling it out since it resides in what's basically a hole. |
