What are the key symptoms of failing front drive shaft / transfer case?

05 4.4 123k

I'm suffering some issues yet again with the X. I know the transfer case is an issue as well as the front drive shaft. My question is what exactly would I feel when these start to fail? I think it's easier to make up the symptoms with people who have experienced it.

I was going to sell it but washed it up on a beautiful day and am now thinking about keeping it. Anyone know a really good x5 mechanic in the Hershey Pa area??????

The truck doesn't move forward.

Is there anything that is a warning to those issues or does it just fail

Just one day when You give it gas and it rolls backwards ? Take it to bmw shop out there and have them put a new longer shaft in .

I have an '05 4.4 and had the transfer case replaced about a year and a half ago at about 80k miles. Under acceleration I would feel something that sort of felt like the transmission was slipping or some kind of disengagement. Then while coming to a stop it felt like the final downshift into first was more exaggerated than normal.

The dealership first misdiagnosed it thinking it was a rolling wheel diameter issue because I coincidentally had the spare on the rear from a flat. After that visit I went directly to a tire shop, mounted new tires and it was still happening. Took it back to the dealer the next morning and after several days and them bringing in one of the regional specialists, they decided it had to the transfer case. It was.

See I don't think that's what I'm feeling. The car pulls just fine and don't jump like they would when something is slipping. I think it might be my bad drivers side cv joint. The boot is cracked and the grease is gone. Looks like it has been that way for a while now.
