It's official - I'm in - 2004 X5 4.4
Finally sealed the deal. Here are pics from the previous owner. My list of to do's is growing, but man, what a beautiful machine. Enjoy the pics. It was hard to find a 4.4 that looked like this :). Only beef is the initial owner badged it a 4.8. Not a big fan of that, but it'll stick for now. Pretty far down my list. It needs valve cover gaskets, so you know what that journey is like. I'll be doing the cover upgrade for the relocated CCV, so the parts alone make me cry a bit. I factored it in to the mental purchase exercise, so I'm good.

Congrats. I hope the to-do list isn't too long.
It looks very similar to mine. |
Welcome to the family of X5ers.
|
welcome...
this one looks like having the flared rear arches, "iS" bumpers, front, back... sports package, "iS" wheels from facelifted version, oval tailpipes... are you sure it is NOT a 4.8iS? what are the last 7 of the VIN? |
looks VEEEERY 48ish to me....
|
Congrats. It looks good in Sterling Gray.
I think he would know the difference between the 4.8iS and the 4.4i, especially on the paper work. The PO must have spent some $$$ to make it a 4.8iS copy if it's indeed a 4.4i. The picture with style132 suggests that it is a 4.4i to me. |
for what its worth I think that Sterling Gray belonged to a former member here, I remember him posting it for sale saying that he spent a lot of money making a Sterling Gray 4.8iS conversion (bodywork, etc)
Looks great! |
^If this is the one you're talking about, Alecx5 is in Chicago and his has style177. I don't think he badge it as 4.8iS either. Also his was lowered on B&G springs.
Maybe the next owner replace the wheels and did the badging. For reference: http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...etup-pics.html http://i1109.photobucket.com/albums/...lecx5/Car1.jpg |
glad you remembered him, so this isn't the same car? I thought he sold it, is he still active?
|
^You're right, RB. He did sell it.

if the speedo cluster has the functioning redline lights a la ///M, then it could be a 4.8... |
Did you purchase it privately? If so, where did you find it Kijiji? It was not listed on trader...Nice X btw!
|
Congratulations and Welcome! Love the color.

Thanks for all the comments. It was a private kijiji sale. The fun has started - right rear window doesn't work (motor goes, won't do down, but goes up) and the left rear door handles stopped working. It was my wife's first day with the car (can I call it a truck, I so want to :)). Scoring some points :)
VIN pulls up an 01/2004 4.4i. It's what I would want to do to a 4.4i but would never get around to or justify. The list is building up, but I'll get it compiled and start posting. For starters, how to get off a door panel when the door won't open. Quest #1. Off to dig out then start searching the forum. Cheers. |
What an amazing truck in the snow!!! Foot down, point and shoot. Such a fun ride. We got dumped with about 10" of snow. Finally dug all the cars out and took the X for a ride. What an experience. I am so glad I took the plunge. I'll be repairing door handles, locks and windows this weekend, but whatever…..:)
