Security System Glitch? Will not start...

Hey all,

My 01 is having some starting glitches that I think are associated with the security system.

A few times after starting the car it will go into trans fail program so I turn the car off reset the alarm and it works.

Most recently the starter will not engage at all when the ignition is turned on, almost like the immobilzer has disabled power to it.

I pulled the immobilizer fuses and no change so I put them back in.

I pulled the 2 security system fuses, I think called theftproofing, and the car starts as normal, drives normal as in no trans fail program.

So I basically just don't have a security system functioning in the car anymore but at least the car works now and I can drive it.

Anyone have any issues with their security system that caused problems that were resolved with a change of a particular component?

Appreciate the responses.

Jason

Sounds more like the ignition switch is busted. Not sure 100% though. Search for ignition switch and your problem.

Thanks for the response Slick!

I will check that out, I was going to update as this afternoon I had the same problem so it must have just been coincidence that pulling those other fuses out the other day did something.

test the battery first - easiest test... if the battery is good, then move onto the ignition switch... security system will not throw a trans safe message... well... it may, as everything in these cars is interconnected but less likely... (case in point - I shorted one of the cameras in the back while working on some wiring on the rear top hatch - my adaptive lights and front rain sensing wipers stopped working... go figure!!! lol... all good now but it got me scratching my head)

This is true. I actually meant to say check the battery first, buy got sidetracked and forgot. Battery and these cars are something else. First thing one should always check.
