Can new transmission affect coolant messages?
Hello again comrades – I still have a “check coolant level” message which I discussed in my previous thread here:
http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...l-message.html I have done all those steps and still have the message. The car runs at gauges normal, system full, and no leaks. I started a new thread because another piece of info is that just a day before the message showed up I had the tranny replaced (long $tory there…). I didn’t think it was relevant but reading other threads made me wonder if the CCL message and the tranny are related? Is some of the engine coolant routed to the tranny to cool it? Is there another sensor or wire harness down there that might have been damaged from the tranny replacement procedure? Pardon my ignorance on the this; I’m still learning about X5s even after 4 years of ownership. Many thanks for any info on this possible theory. I’m still baffled at the continuing message. |
not related. if you've replaced the coolant level sensor in the expansion tank and that didn't fix it, now you need to verify you are getting voltage at the sensor connector. if you are getting voltage there, then you need to replace your expansion tank.

The only physical connection the tranny has with the cooling system is via the ATF/coolant heat exchanger.
But usually with tranny work you pull the oil lines going to the heat exchanger if needed, leaving the cooling system untouched and intact. If they pulled the heat exchanger from the distribution plate that would spill the coolant and necesitate a refill and bleeding of the system. If the bleeding after refill was done improperly it would result in low coolant messages. |
Thanks to all of you for the great information and feedback, I appreciate it. As mentioned, expansion tank and sensor have been replaced, system full and bled properly. Message continues. I will check voltage at sensor connection and report back with updates. It sure if baffling/annoying, but I'll figure it out one way or another! Thanks again.
