Self level suspension inactive! Finally fixed!!

Glad to let everyone know It was a good relief today after replacing the battery and resetting the code, the air suspension is working as it should!
For me it was the battery which was insufficiently charged.

Anyone having same issues might wanna check the battery first. And if you see a pool of water in the battery compartment like I found, clean the rear hatch rubber drain plugs too while you're at it.im glad the water didn't get so high to make a mess of the electronics..
Hopefully I won't break the switch now from playing so much with the suspension haha

Cheers

That's what I have been telling others. I have the exact same problem when I bought my iS. I have to clear the fault code every other day until I replace the battery.
Now you can code it lowered :nanana:

A strong battery is the first start, then check for healthy alternator by checking OBC test 9 for running voltage.

If both check out, then scan the module for faults and its likely either compressor is burnt out of spec or you have a slow leaking airbag, in my couple years on here those are the most popular faults with the EHCII system.

Code ?

How do you clear the code ?

Thanks,

Ed

Need to hook up DIS or BMW specific diagnostic program to clear the fault in the EHCII module

You have air management right? I have coilovers and the code on the dashboard has got to go. Did you bring it to the dealer to have them code it?

Yep EHC II..A friend of mine did it for me...

Guess what.after a day of working just fine, the sucker went back into inactive mode...and I thought I'm done with it.

Ricky Bobby 03-18-2014 03:49 PM

did you read the module and see which fault code was stored? Post up what code you have theres a good chance I can help...

If the error is on the dash there is a hard fault stored, my bet? Burnt out compressor in need of repair kit.

If it's even on all 4 corners and not going lower, I would set the desired ride height and forget it.

The previous owner of my 4.8 spent $4,000 replacing pumps, sensors, abs module, etc before I bought it to clear the code for only 100 miles. Turned right back on. The shop told me to bring it back so they can "diagnose" it further. I've had it for 6 months, having no issues. I have the same inactive suspension warning.

Not worth throwing parts and money at it if it's still functioning.

I used INPA to set the ride height.

air ride help please

ive had problems since i bought mine. I use to have pumped up shocks and a light on where the level selection button is but now that is off and the truck does not pump up at all. Its like riding a tank through a mine feild. I took the pump out and tested it. It does pump. Second i tried jumping the relay but that does nothing. So i am at a point where i dont know where to go. Does this reset option cost anything from the dealer or can i do it myself somehow?

Few of us have found the ebay copy of GTS to be of help with the air systems. When I was going through my saga (http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...al-solved.html) of a speed dead sensor I accidentally calibrated one corner to be 1" higher than the rest. It was enough to tick off the system enough to go into in-active mode. There are also some other modes, line mode, transport mode that others have talked about needing to be reset from. The air systems seem to be a bit rarer but I can tell you GT1 software does a good job letting you see all of the inputs from sensors and calibrating too.

Do you have any warning lights on the dash too or only "sus inactive" on display?

four.8is 03-19-2014 02:28 AM

All I have is susp inactive message that's it no other lights..will have to get a software I have a laptop sitting around anyway might as well use it for diagnose!

four.8is 03-19-2014 03:13 AM

And it has worked all day yesterday I thought for sure the battery was the culprit now back at square 1 gotta have lots of patience:)

Ricky Bobby 03-19-2014 09:28 AM

Just scan the module and let us know what faults its throwing, also check your current ride heights on level ground, the system has a built in tolerance I think if you are offset more than 3/4" inch it will throw the system inactive.

RB I'll check and report back soon
Just waiting on my friend to get off work to read the module!
