Gearbox error code

Took x5 in for smoking issue

Upon the scan it had error code for gearbox something along lines

- oil deteriorated
- level to high
- permanent

I have had no issues with the gearbox and it drives fine

Any ideas what to do?

Ok guys scanned with bmw 1.4 tool today and got following error

54c6 oil abrasion

This code was deleted before and has come back

I'm guessing its a simple tranny oil change?

What's the best oil to use and how many litres?

On last thing do I need to get adaption levels changed after?

I had the same error but on my transfer box not the gearbox.

Means the oil needs changing.

If it's on the gearbox, then need to change the oil but don't need to readapt it. Takes quite a bit of oil to change and isn't cheap. About 8 litres.

Transfer box oil is about £30 for 1 litre and only requires that.

give me the specs please. What is the year and the model?
In my X when I first bought it I changed the fluid with Amsoil signature series fuel efficient synthetic. My 2006 4.4i takes 9 litres since i have the GA6HP26Z 6 speed trans. Castrol is OE so you can use that as well. You basically want a product with a higher TBN, low NOACK, oxidiation resistance and also check the viscosity index. Based off those I recommend Amsoil, Redline, Mobil 1 or Pennzoil

Um, sorry bud. I did not want to flame you on all the other OIL threads, but all of your info here is wrong, and none of those oils meet spec for the 6hp. And the transmission is a ZF, the factory, or OE oil is gold colored ZF as well. The only oil that meets speck, is ZF lifeguard 6 for our cars. Anything else, and you are playing games with a $3k rebuild. Feel free to check my facts by searching the forums as to what oil meets spec for our transmission.

P.S. Even though you say you are trying to sell Amsoil on the side, it sure does seem like you are trying way too hard.
P.P.S. Amsoil is bullshit.

Thanks guys

As the error was in the VTG section of scanning menu

Would I be right that it only needs 1litre tranny oil with no adaption required
